We found some cheap tickets to Kauai/Maui a couple months ago, so we booked them! We booked 5 days in Kauai and 5 days in Maui. Steve and I haven't been to Hawaii (Oahu/Kauai) for 12 years, and we've been wanting to go back. Last time we went, I was 6 months pregnant w/ Nyles. We wanted to take the kids w/ us this time and visit Maui instead of Oahu as the kids are still pretty young (Hudson in particular for visiting Pearl Harbor). We were also able to use credit card points for hotels, so they were free!
We left on Monday, August 26th. Our flight wasn't until 11:30am so we didn't have to wake up early. Rob met us at our place and came with us to drive our car home. He had a meeting at work though, so we arrived at the airport a little early, which was fine. Rob was also going to stay at our house to take care of Piper and feed the fish.
At the airport, ready to go! Getting our steps in going to the B gates.
Getting a snack before our flight. Our plane has arrived!
And we're off! We landed in Oakland, grabbed a quick bite to eat, then we were off again to Kauai!
Hudson eating his hamburger, then walking between the chairs. Silly kid.
We had a full flight over to Oakland, but thankfully it wasn't full going to Kauai. We had an open seat next to us, which was great for us to move around for our longer 5 hour flight.
Flying over San Francisco, Golden Gate bridge and Alcatraz.
Thankfully Hudson took a nap on the way over, and Carter for a little bit as well.
We then landed, got our bags, and had a shuttle take us to our rental car through Turo. Turo is like Airbnb for cars ie renting other people's cars. We decided to do this because I read that they're REALLY slow in Hawaii at the car rental place, plus you can choose the exact car you want to rent. It was also cheaper and you can rent car seats from them, which worked out great!
It was neat to see places Steve and I saw/visited 12 years ago. As the shuttle driver said, Kauai hasn't changed much in 12 years, which was nice for us to reminisce. We were so happy to land in Kauai, both to get off the airplane and get on with our vacation. We rented a Kia Soul, which was small to get around the island but big enough for us all. Nyles and Carter had to hold one of our luggage's on their lap though going to our hotel, as there wasn't much cargo space.
There are so many chickens; I love it! So great to be in Kauai again!
Driving through the tree tunnels to our hotel.
We made it to our hotel, the Grand Hyatt Kauai!
They gave us leis, so awesome! The grounds were beautiful!
We then went to our room and got ready for bed. We were exhausted by this time.
After getting settled in, we went to bed, excited for the days ahead of us!
