First full day in Maui

On Saturday, August 30th, we had a fun 1st day in Maui.

The boys eating some Costco muffins for breakfast.  Beautiful view out our window.

After breakfast we went to explore the hotel and area.  So pretty!

The boys riding the camel for fun :)

Pretty flowers.  Cool pools.

Beautiful views.  Hudson trying to pet the fish :)

We signed up for a nut bracelet making class.  It was fun and quick!  Now we have matching bracelets.

Family picture.

Aloha sign in the lobby.  We decided to go explore Haleakala National Park.

Fire damage from last year in Lahaina, which is close to where we stayed.

It was a REALLY windy road, going from sea level to 10,000 at the peak.
Thankfully Hudson fell asleep on the way and took a nap.

We made it!  Thankfully our National Park's Pass got us in!
We used it here in Maui, and in Kauai at the bird refuge; score!

Then Carter fell asleep.  We made it to the Visitor's Center and picked up Jr. Ranger booklets for the boys to fill out.  Based on their age, they each had so many tasks to complete.  It definitely kept the boys entertained, which was great!  Plus we all learned a lot while exploring the park.

Cool Silversword plants, nearly extinct.  Getting oriented for the drive up the volcano.

Our first lookout point.  It was SOOO cool to see the clouds go around us and look down at them.

Cool clouds moving past us.

So amazing!

Steve teasing Hudson.

Carter filling out his Jr. Ranger booklet.  Nyles taking in the view.

An observatory at the top of the volcano.  More Silverswords.

Beautiful views of the volcanoes.

Wow!

Family pictures.

More cool plants and funny Chukar bird.

The Chukar birds came over to Steve when they heard him getting out a snack.  Steve went to take a closer picture and the bird snapped at him, trying to get the food.  It was pretty funny to watch.  Cool Silversword plants.

At the peak, over 10,000 feet.

Simply breathtaking!

The Silversword in bloom.  Cool clouds from up top.

Amazing views!

Maui!  Up in the clouds!

Back at the Visitor's Center, the boys all completed their tasks and earned their badge!
More Ne Ne's (Hawaiian Geese) outside.  Fun clouds.

It was fun driving back down through the clouds.  We rolled down the windows and felt them!  Carter and Hudson got a little car sick on the way down unfortunately, but were fine after throwing up :)

Then back at the hotel, the boys wanted to go swimming of course.  The pool was always REALLY warm, just a little less than a hot tub.  Beautiful sunset!  Aloha!

We were so glad we took the time to go over to the National Park.  It was simply amazing!  We are so thankful for the beauty around us and all over the world we can enjoy.
