Idaho Sweet Corn Time!

We were hoping the sweet corn would be ready to be picked the weekend before school started, but it wasn't.  So we made quick arrangements to go up Friday, August 23rd.  Ironically I didn't have any appointments scheduled so I took the day off.  Nyles also missed his half day of school and Steve missed a half day of rotations.  We LOVE sweet corn from the farm, so we didn't want to miss it though.  Plus we all love going up to visit Grandma and Grandpa on the farm.  Since Steve's dad Dave retired at the beginning of August, he decided to go with us for the ride and see how it's done.  We left Friday morning and got there just after lunch.  After we got there, we unloaded a few things, then loaded up in my dad's pickup to go get corn.

 We filled 2.5 coolers full and then went back to the house to start cooking it.  While the first batch cooked we wrote this year on the bags.  Then we taught Dave the process.  Steve and my mom ran the boiling water pots, Dave cut the corn, and I mostly filled the bags.

 

After boiling them in water for 10 minutes, we cooled them off, then cut the corn from the cobs.

 

Lastly we bag the corn in freezer bags.  My dad then took them out to the freezer to cool off more and hopefully freeze before we had to leave the next day.

After finishing our first batch (and dinner), we went back out and picked another cooler full to bag, and a cooler full to eat (sharing w/ others of course).

 Addie the cat is still around and doing well.  She's been at my parent's place since Nyles was 2 months old (used to live next to Dave/Joann).  She seems to love being on the farm.

 Saturday morning we went to the fish ponds to try and get a fish.

Good catch boys!  Nyles figured out how to cast all by himself.  He's becoming a great fisherman just like his dad and both grandpas!

 The boys went on a few motorcycle rides w/ Grandpa of course.  Foxy went along for the ride.

After they cut down their tree, leaves started growing in the truck, making it look like a bush!

After lunch we got on the road again to head home.  Sunday was Chandler's mission farewell, so we needed to be back for it.  I sat in the back next to the boys and kept them entertained.  We rented movies from the library which they mostly watched or played w/ toys.  It was a quick trip, but we're always happy to have the yummy sweet corn throughout the year.  Thanks Mom and Dad!
