December is Here!!!

Can you believe that December is here?  November went by sooo quickly.  Christmas will be here in only 24 more days, wow!  Before you know it the new year will be here.

Well I've been back to work for 3 weeks now.  Things are going well and we've got a routine going for the most part.  Nyles is doing better also, now that he's used to being w/ Steve more and having him feed him a bottle.  Luckily I've had some vacation days so I've had a day off or so each week, which has been really nice especially for Nyles I think. 

On the 13th I had a RS meeting where we made apple pies.  After I got home from work I fed Nyles then we bathed him and got him ready for bed.  Steve then stayed w/ him while I went to our meeting.  We had about 15 women come, which was a pretty good turn out.  We played a get to know you activity since we have a lot of new sisters in the branch again, then had Patty show us how to make and shape the crust.  We then each made 2 small pies and took them home to bake.  It was fun.

On Wednesday the 14th Steve had class like normal, but I had to go to a home and visiting teaching meeting.  So after I got home from work I hurried and fed Nyles, then loaded him up and went to the church for my meeting.  Thankfully Nyles was really good and eventually fell asleep.  After the meeting I brought him home and put him to bed.  I know its not easy on him taking him to and from meeting, but I'm very grateful he's tolerant most of the him of our schedules, especially mine with my calling.


The rest of the week went well.  I took a 1/2 a day off Thursday and all day Friday in order to help Steve with Nyles so he could study for a test and do homework.  It was nice to be home and take care of Nyles, and of course as Steve would say Nyles behaved himself for me. ;)  Steve was able to get a lot of homework done and did well on his test as well. 

That Saturday Steve went with his friends Rob and Josh up by the cabin to hunt coyotes.  They saw a couple and even shot at some, but didn't get any.  While he was gone Nyles and I cleaned the house and went and did some grocery shopping.

On Sunday November 18th I had meetings as usual in the morning.  Then after church we had our munch and mingle.  We then came home, fed Nyles, then headed over to LuDean's for the "honoree dinner" where I was the one being honored.  I invited Rose to come since Mom and Dad of course couldn't come.  Pauline was in Colorado for Thanksgiving or she would have come also.  The honoree dinner is something Steve's family has done for quite a while now.  They spotlight one member of the family and then each person gets to say something they appreciate about that person then give them something that reminds them of that person.  It's a way to show gratitude for each family member; it's really neat.  We had Papa Murphy's pizza for dinner and salads, then started the "honoree" part.  Rose had to leave to go get the girls so we let her go first.  I wish she could have stayed longer but regardless I was really glad she could come, even for a few minutes.  It was really nice to hear the kinds words from everyone.  I really appreciated it!

Work went well up to Thanksgiving, then of course I had Thanksgiving off.   It was pretty low key, which was nice.  We went up to Steve's parents house along w/ Rose and his Aunt Diane.  LuDean had a cold and wasn't feeling well so didn't come.  She also didn't want to expose JoAnn since she had surgery on her shoulder the day before (poor thing).  We had a good feast, then had pie that Rose made, yumm, and ice cream.  We then played a game of "Ticket to Ride: then looked at the Black Friday ads.  Nyles was good the whole time, mostly slept and/or just sat in the bouncy seat while we played.  It was a good Thanksgiving!  We have so much to be thankful for.  I feel sooo blessed this year, especially with the arrival of our cute baby boy Nyles.

The next day I went to work until 2 pm, then our site closed for the day, which was nice.  Steve then picked me up at work and we headed to Best Buy to see if we could get a free Android phone.  We got there and they said they had plenty of the free phones still, so we stood in line to get yours.  We had been waiting since May to upgrade our phones but wanted to wait for a good "deal" before we did so.  This was definitely the best deal in that the phones would have cost $800 each otherwise.  I'm so excited to get a nice phone which actually runs quickly.  It will also be easier for me to keep up on emails and other tasks for Relief Society on the go. 

Since it was going to be a while, I took Nyles out to the car and fed and changed him.  We then got back and strolled around the store a while longer then it was our turn.  We got our new phones after waiting an hour and a half in line, then went to meet Rob at a gun place.  He was wanting to find a new gun to go hunt coyotes, but they didn't have anything he was looking for.  We then went to Red Robin's for dinner w/ Rob, then back to our place to put Nyles down for bed.

Saturday Steve went hunting for coyotes again w/ Rob.  Again they saw a couple and shot at them but didn't get any.  They even called in a red fox ;)  That night we were planning to go to Cameron's 3rd birthday party, but Nyles wasn't feeling well and wanted to go to bed early (at 6pm).  We think he's getting some teething in because he's drooling and likes a cold washcloth in his mouth.  I guess we'll see.

On Sunday the 25th I had pec in the morning, then we had our home teacher over right after church.  We then back to the church for tithing settlement which was good.  I also learned we have more to spend on our Branch Christmas Party which is a big relief.  Since Joann is still recovering we thought we'd help w/ dinner.  She had actually made lasagna before so Dave warmed that up and I made rolls, green bean casserole and rhubarb crisp.  We stayed and chatted for a little while then headed home to put Nyles to bed.

I went to work on Monday like normal then Steve left for class at 5pm.  Dave and Melissa Thomas came and watched Nyles until I got home.  Things were going well until about 9pm that night.  Nyles went to bed and I made Steve some dinner.  He got out a little early and was home shortly after 9pm.  About this time my stomach really started to hurt.  After Steve ate dinner I took a shower and got ready for bed.  My stomach continued to hurt and before I knew it I was throwing up all night.  No matter what position I was in my stomach kept hurting; it was awful!  I stayed home the next day since I was still nauseous every time I stood up.  I was still pretty weak on Wednesday so I stayed home again. 

On Thursday I was feeling a lot better and actually got ready for work and got to the train station when Steve called and asked me to come home.  He was now throwing up and not feeling well.  It was good that I came home because he was weak like I was and it would have been hard for him to take care of Nyles.  He slept most of the day while I took care of Nyles and cleaned up the house.  I felt really bad especially since it was his birthday too!  We had planned to celebrate it on Friday though so I already had the day off.  I know he wasn't feel well, but I had already put together a "Birthday Bag" for him of his favorite things.  Thankfully he's been feeling better the last couple days and has been able to enjoy some of his goodies.  I also got him a Bocce set to play, hopefully while the weather is still nice outside.

 Well we're getting for Steve to get done with his classes.  He should be getting done these next couple weeks then he'll be done with his Bachelors Degree!!!!  That will be such a relief!  We're also excited to go up and visit my family around Christmas time.  My sister Anna and her family are actually moving there right now and should be there by Sunday or Monday.  Her husband Chris got a job in Twin Falls.  It will be nice to have them close by after being so far away for so long.  It will be fun to have Christmas with Nyles this year also, even though he doesn't understand what's going on or anything.  Well, have a great week and let the Christmas music play all month long!!! ;)

Back to Work

Well today I officially went back to work after having 3 months to be home w/ Nyles.  Ironically today is also my 5 year anniversary of working at Fidelity.  Nyles is also 3 months old today!  It was fun to see everyone from work again and catch up a little bit, but of course I missed cute little Nyles.  Steve said he was a real "pill" this morning when I left.  I guess he just kept crying and didn't want to take the bottle or nap, though he was both hungry and tired.  After he finally relaxed and took his first nap he was a lot better.  Steve said he ate really well and slept really well, like he normally does.

I took the train to work like normal, which was nice so I could read my scriptures and relax a little.  I mainly just got caught up today, sorting through emails and getting access to my systems again.  I also had some trainings to do, so it was pretty relaxed.  The main difference was fitting in times to pump.  Luckily our office has a "mother's room" so I was able to do it in a nice private place.  Since Steve needed to leave by 5:15pm to get to his class and I don't get home until 5:50pm we asked our neighbors to come over and sit w/ Nyles until I got home.  Nyles was pretty happy to see me, but also tired and hungry.  After our neighbors left my 1st counselor came over briefly to bring us dinner, which was really sweet of her.  I then gave Nyles his bath, fed him and put him to bed.  He didn't even fuss at all.  He was exhausted and went right to bed!

Yesterday morning I had my PEC meeting at 7:30am.  After it was over I came back and picked Steve and Nyles up and went back to the church.  Since it had been snowing the past couple days the roads were REALLY slick.  A lot of people were sliding around.  After church we came home, I fed Nyles and made us some lunch, then headed back to the church to meet w/ our branch president.  When I got home the 3 of us took a nap, Nyles in his bouncy seat by our bed.  We then made dinner and enjoyed each others company.

On Saturday the 10th, I was able to get caught up on many things.  I did the laundry, got groceries, and made posters for our Branch Christmas Party.  After getting back from grocery shopping, I quickly made some dinner then we got ready to go to the temple.  Dave was kind enough to come over and sit here after we put Nyles down to sleep.  He woke up a couple times shortly after we left, but then stayed asleep the rest of the time.  We made it just in time for the last session at the Jordan River Temple.  There was only about 8 men and 8 women in our session, of which we were the actual only couple.  We were asked to be the witness couple, which was neat.  The temple worker was really grateful we came.  I didn't even pass out this time ;)  It was really neat to be there, especially in the temple and celestial room so late in that it was really quiet.  This was the first time we got to do a session together since having Nyles.  It was great to be back in the House of the Lord doing His work.

The weekend before we went up to Boise to see my sister Barbara's little girl Calley get blessed.  It was fun to see her and her cute family.  While we were up there we also got to go through the Boise, Idaho Temple Open House.  It has been closed the past year and a half for remodeling.  Ironically it was originally dedicated when I was about 5 months old so I don't remember going through it w/ my family.  The changes they made are incredible.  It is gorgeous inside and out.  The outside is new stone also.  Steve and I will have to go back and do a session sometime.

I went through the open house w/ Pauline and her family, Rose and Haley.  I also carried Nyles in w/ me.   It was neat to have him in the temple.  My mom and aunt Sherri were outside w/ Nyles while we went through the chapel part, but then he woke up from his nap and was hungry, so I hurried and fed him while Pauline and Rose waiting in line to go through.  Since it was a Saturday it was rather busy, but they kept the line moving as quickly as possible.  Before we went to the open house we all went w/ Barb's family and ate out at Chuck-O-Rama.  I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food tasted.  We went home that night, then came back w/ Steve, my dad and Grandma Hegerhorst the next morning.

Steve had to work on his project some more the next day, so we headed back that afternoon after the blessing.  We made it in pretty good time, though we had to stop a couple times for Nyles.  He did really good on the way up since it was later and basically slept the whole time.  On the way back I think he was just tired of his car seat and got a little fussy, but overall he did great for his first long trip.

Last week I got to help the missionaries w/ a lesson to Samantha again.  We talked more about the Restoration and watched the video about it.  I think she's starting to understand it better now.  After helping w/ the lesson I hurried home and made the missionaries dinner.  I made Autumn Soup, cornbread and Apple Betty w/ ice cream for dessert.  After they left I fed Nyles again then headed to the Stake for Stake Relief Society training.

Well, I hope things are going well.  I can't believe Thanksgiving is next week. Hope you have a great Thanksgiving if I don't see you before then! ;)

Halloween Pics

I just wanted to put up some pics from our Halloween Costumes.  Here we are as 3 Blind Mice at the family Halloween Party we had on the 20th at Melanie and Brandon Lake's house.
 

 

Last night for Halloween we stopped by a party put on by Zach Hanney and his girlfriend Jen.  Nyles was a hit with the women there! He did get tired after a little bit though so we didn't stay too long.  We didn't take him trick or treating this year, but definitely plan on going next year with him.  Steve definitely wanted to go this year but we weren't sure about going since he's so little.

On Tuesday the 30th we made our way over to the Sandy Senior Center in order to vote early.  I wanted to make sure we voted, and since we had a few minutes, we figured we my as well as do it now.

That night I went w/ a sister in our branch to find other sisters who have moved in which we don't have a phone number for.  Steve was watching Nyles while I was gone but I guess he wasn't too happy about it.  Steve said he finally calmed down after he put him on my pillow, with my sweater and my bunny.  I guess my smell has a "calming" affect on him.

Yesterday I also went w/ the missionaries to teach Zahra and her mom Samantha again.  We had a good lesson.  It's really been great to teach again and share my testimony.  We are so blessed to have the fulness of the Gospel restored again here on earth. 

Winter Already?

This past Thursday, October 25th, we went up to the cabin in order to winterize it.  Ironically that morning we got SNOWED on.  I was a little nervous to go up since we normally get more snow up at the cabin than down here, plus it's usually 10 degrees cooler, but luckily the weather held out enough and we made it.  We followed Dave and Joann up in the Tahoe pulling the trailer.  Dave took the trailer up in order to load the ATVs up and bring them back down so we can get the tracks on them for the winter. 

When we got up to the cabin there definitely was snow.  Once we pulled off the main road there was a couple inches of snow we had to drive through.  Thankfully our little Corolla made it just fine.  It was rather cold when we got there of course, both inside and outside the cabin.  It was 36 degrees outside when we got there.  Luckily after starting a fire and turning on the space heaters, by the time we went to bed it was warm per say.  We were also blessed that the pipes didn't freeze before we could get up there (our prayers were answered).

It sure felt like winter up there.  The next morning it was 18 degrees outside, brrrr!  Steve and Dave attempted to go out fishing that morning but unfortunately the water pump in the boat was frozen so it wouldn't go.  They then came back and put the boat away for the winter.  I helped them sort through things and get the ATVs loaded up.  We also moved more firewood up so it would be ready to go.

After we got things winterized except the turning the water off, Steve and I left while Dave and Joann stayed up one more night (they turned the water off just before they left).  When we got down we unloaded then Steve went w/ Dave Thomas fishing for a few hours.  I finished unpacking, showered, fed Nyles, then went over to visit Melissa Thomas until they got back.  When they got back we all went over to Sweet Tomatoes for a quick bite to eat.  It was fun chatting w/ them.  They were leaving the next day to go on a cruise in the Caribbean.

Saturday the 27th Steve had a training he was in charge of for his capstone class.  He left at 7:15am and didn't get back until 3:45pm.  He has to put in 100 hours for his project and is getting really close to being done.  He has about 18 hours left, so hopefully by the time I have to go back to work in a couple weeks he'll be done.  After the training was over he went up to the U Hospital to give Daron's wife Kristi's mom a blessing.  They came here from Nevada to get better treatment though we're not sure what's wrong. 

On Sunday I had my PEC meeting at 7:30am.  After going to that I swung home and picked up Steve and Nyles.  Nyles was pretty good during church, except a little bit during 3rd hour when Steve had him for Elder's Quorum.  After church we went home and had our home teachers for a 1/2 hour, then I fed Nyles, then had my counselors over for a RS Meeting.  We went over callings again, since we've had a lot of new sisters move in the last couple months (which is great!).  I think I heard we've had over 85 callings in our branch extended since January.  That's just this year.  I've been RS President for almost 2 years now just to give you an idea of the amount of change we have here.  Fun, Fun :) 

After my meeting I fed Nyles again, then we went over to LuDean's house to celebrate Dave's birthday.  We also celebrated Stacie, Diane and Joann's dad Carl's birthday.  We had cake and ice cream and played Halloween Bingo.  Afterwards Steve and I helped clean up then we stayed and played a game w/ Dave, Joann and Diane.  Nyles even stayed up for the game.  It was a fun evening!

After we got home from playing games we got Nyles ready for bed and put him down at about 10pm.  He normally wakes up at least once during the night, but last night he slept through the whole night!  He didn't wake up to feed until 7:30am!!!!  It was soooo nice to sleep the whole night.  We are keeping our fingers crossed that this trend will continue.  Especially since I have to go back to work in a couple weeks and I'll need my sleep.

Last Saturday, October 20th we had the McGrath Family Halloween Party at Melanie and Brandon's house.  We found a cute mouse costume for Nyles at Savers for $2 and figured we'd think of something for Steve and I to go w/ it.  With Joann's help we came up w/ 3 Blind Mice.  Here is a sneak peak at our costumes.  I'll put more pictures up shortly.  I made sugar cookies w/ orange Kool-Aid frosting and candy corns and chocolate cupcakes w/ orange and brown M&Ms, but we had lots of desserts so we didn't really eat them.  We had dinner and played games, though Nyles was a little overstimulated so we just hung out instead.

The next day, Sunday, I had Branch Council at 7:30am.  After the meeting I came home and picked up Nyles and Steve.  After church we had a munch and mingle, but since it was taco soup and I can't have beans or spices, I took Nyles home to feed and change him.  I then came back w/ him for my home and visiting teaching meeting.  Steve went with a few other Elders and helped pass the sacrament at Health South Rehabilitation Center so Nyles stayed w/ me.  He was pretty good, but got a little fussy towards the end, though I can't blame him since it was a long meeting.  After the meeting I hurried home and made chicken cordon bleu.  We wanted to help our before LuDean had surgery on her arm the next morning.  We then took it over to LuDean's house and had dinner w/ her, Diane, Dave and Joann.  Joann brought rolls, rice and a salad, all of which tasted great.  We had my sugar cookies and cupcakes for dessert which was leftover from the night before.  We then played Ticket to Ride, which was a lot of fun.

On Monday the 22nd while Steve was at class I had the opportunity to go w/ the missionaries and teach a lesson to a couple investigators.  I had our neighbor Melissa watch Nyles while I went over.  We planned to teach them the 2nd lesson but ended up mostly answering questions that they had.  It's a mom and daughter who moved her from Las Vegas.  Apparently the dad's side of the family are members but they've never been involved much in the church.  We should have another lesson w/ them this week.  Unfortunately they weren't able to make it to church since they were sick.  Hopefully this next week.  It's fun teaching the Gospel to investigators again.

On Tuesday the 23rd I went over to Chase bank to correct a transaction I saw online which was incorrect.  A couple days before I had gone through the drive through to deposit a $50 check and the cashier lady actually filled out the deposit slip for me.  Mistakenly she wrote $500 instead of $50, and though the check was clearly $50, they deposited $500 into my checking account.  Though it was tempting to do nothing, especially since I called their 800 # after I saw it online and they told me they couldn't do anything but I'd have to go to the branch who made the mistake, I wouldn't have felt right about taking money that wasn't mine.  Ironically, when I went to the bank to correct the mistake they didn't say anything about them making a mistake.  All they said was that they'd correct it for me, as if it was MY fault or something.  Oh well, at least I know I was being honest about the whole situation.

On Wednesday the 24th Steve took me to my eye appointment.  I hadn't had an eye exam in a couple years and figured it was time.  I had planned to do it earlier this year, but since I was pregnant I decided to wait since sometimes your eyes can change after having a baby I hear.  My contact prescription changed just a little bit but my glasses prescription changed a lot.  I hadn't updated my glasses prescription in a while since I hardly wear them, but now that I wear them at night when I breastfeed I figured I'd probably better update them so I can see better.  Since my eyes got dilated during the exam it made it hard to see or focus on things.  The Dr said it would last a couple hours, but it ended up lasting more like 6 hours.  Not being able to see gave me a headache, but thankfully Nyles took a nap w/ me on our bed while Steve was gone to class.

Well we're excited to go up and visit my family this weekend.  Barbara is blessing her little girl Calley Mae.  Nyles and her are 6 weeks apart, fun! ;)

Nyles' Baby Blessing

This past Sunday, October 14, 2012, Steve blessed Nyles at our branch.  We are very grateful for all who attended and stood in the circle.  With the amount of family members who came we basically doubled the size of our branch.  It was pretty neat to see.  Here are some pictures.

Right after the blessing at the church we went up to Dave and Joann's house and had a light luncheon.  It was really fun to see the whole family together and spend some time with them.  I'm grateful my parents were able to come down, though it was a short trip.  They had to leave that afternoon to get back to the farm.  For the luncheon we actually cooked up hams from a pig my niece Haley raised.  Everyone said they were delicious!  She was also a big help getting Nyles in and out of his outfit.  It was fun seeing her.  She is actually taller than me now, as is Summer.  I won't be surprised if most of my nieces and nephews end up taller than me though.  Oh well, at least I was taller than then at some point.  :)

The next day, on the 15th we had Nyles' 2 month appointment.  He weighed in at 11 lbs 8 ozs and was 23 inches long, which makes him "average" I guess.  It's amazing how much he's grown and developed these past 2 months.  He also got 3 shots and an oral vaccine.  He cried a little of course, as they were giving him the shots, but was fine afterwards.  Our pediatrician suggested getting Tylenol to give to him when we got home since he'd be sore.  We did so, which seemed to help.  The appointment must have worn him out because he ended up sleeping most of the afternoon.

The next couple days I had some Relief Society visits to meet new sisters in the branch and a meeting.  We are in charge of our branch Christmas Party again so we got started on planning that again.  We basically used the "template" we made from last year and made some slight adjustments for this year.  It should be a lot easier this year since we know a little more of what to expect.  Our theme is going to be "Tell me the Stories of Jesus."

Last week I also went and got some storage bins and sorted through all the clothes that my sister Barbara gave me and Steve's sister Melanie also.  With the two amounts combined we have plenty of clothes for Nyles up to 4T, which we are VERY grateful for.  Thank you!

Steve has been working hard at this very BUSY school schedule this semester.  Each week is getting busier and busier but at the same time getting closer to getting done.  I know it will be such a relief to get this semester over with, which means he will graduate also!!!

On Friday October 19th I got together with my sisters Pauline and Rose and their girls and went to Gardner Village to the Witchfest.  Since it was UEA the girls didn't have school.  It was a little crowded due to UEA, but it was still fun.  We went around searching for witches that were scattered around the place.  It was great just to get out and enjoy the sunshine.  Nyles must has enjoyed it too since he slept the whole time in his stroller ;)  Afterwards we went back to my place where the girls watched a movie, ate some popcorn and played while we chit chatted.  It was a lot of fun!

That night we went over to LuDean's house to celebrate his Aunt Diane's birthday.  The night before LuDean actually got into a car accident and broke her right arm.  Instead of going out to eat Dave and Joann brought over Papa Murphy's pizza which we cooked up and I made a chocolate cake for her. Chris and Wendy Wardell also came to visit.  It was fun to be w/ them and celebrate her birthday.  LuDean had surgery this past Monday and is slowly recovering.

Nyles is officially 2 months old today.  As I mentioned before, Pauline came up last week and took REALLY cute pictures of Nyles.  Thanks again Pauline for taking them; we really enjoy them!  He's such a joy to our lives and has such a sweet spirit.  I think you can tell from the pictures, enjoy ;)
