Steve's trip to the Uintas

Steve went up to the Uintas w/ the Young Men of our ward on Thursday, June 21st through Saturday, June 23rd.  They left at 8am, drove up to the Unitas, and hiked into Notch Lake (2.5 miles one way).  I took the 2 days off work and spent time w/ the boys.

Steve all ready to go.  He was pretty excited!
(His pack weighed about as much as Steve has lost, 50 lbs).

I took the boys to the Aquarium for about 1 hour before going to swim lessons on Thursday.  Nyles and Carter by the cute Tortoise.

Looking at the Otters.

And now looking at the fish.  Carter can almost see :)

Nyles looking at the new bee exhibit.  A cute penguin swimming.

Watching the penguins at feeding time.

Carter loves the slides and tunnels at the playground area.

Jumping on the lights.

We then went over to swim lessons.  On the last day of swim lessons they get to jump off the diving boards and go down the slides.  It was REALLY hot and sunny, so Nyles didn't want to open his eyes.

Jumping off the high diving board.  He's not afraid to jump anymore.

Going down the slide.  Carter enjoying a sucker watching Nyles.

More on the diving board.

On the way home we saw a deer just wandering around our neighborhood.

The next morning we went over to the Draper Park.  Carter and Nyles love swings!

Carter going down the slide, and Nyles and Carter in the train playground.

Nyles also went over to a birthday party for Sophia Anderson (she lives right behind us).
Nyles going to get his face painted from Shaylee Jensen at the party.

That afternoon we met up w/ Chris, Pauline, Charlotte and Ezra and went back to the Aquarium.  It was so hot outside so it was nice to have a/c, and luckily it wasn't too crowded.

Carter enjoying not just one sucker but two!  Silly kid ;)

Nyles and Ezra playing on the turtle.

Carter looking at the swimming turtle.  After going to Aquarium we went over to a park for a birthday party for George McGrath (LuDean's husband).  He would have turned 100 this year so LuDean wanted to celebrate!

Phill going up to help Conor down from the climbing dome.

While we were at home playing, Steve was up in the Uintas playing too :)
Steve fishing up there, and their campsight.

Mark Atwood, Bishop Brian Anderson, and Rich Mitchell.

The boys at camp.

S'mores around the campfire.

Pretty sun and scenery.

The water filter doing it's job (Platypus).

Steve all nestled in his tent.

The campfire w/ s'mores.

The boys hiking up the rocks.

Beautiful view.  Steve brought some Dum Dum suckers and enjoyed them :)

Of course he went fishing!

Cooking around the campfire.

Steve enjoying his Mtn House meals and trying to stay away from the mosquitoes.  He ended up using a whole bottle of bug spray during the 2 days he was up there.

Beautiful view around the lake.

More fishing.

Pretty meadow.

Steve's tent all set up and the water filter in the tree.

All their tents set up.

Cute Steve enjoying the view.  He also had to climb up higher to get any cell phone service.  Thankfully he was able to get a little coverage, enough to keep us posted each day and tell us they were ok.

And fishing again.

Steve said I'm starting to rub off on him in that he noticed all the pretty flowers growing.

Steve said they had a good time.  He's really staring to enjoy backpacking and hopes we can do it more as a family (maybe once Carter gets a little older).  He did admit he missed us and his bed though.  He surprised us by coming home early Saturday around noon.  We were so excited we went to the Draper Pool to spend some time together as a family and cool off from the heat.  It was fun!

Nyles and Carter at the pool.  We were so glad to have Steve back w/ us!
