On Friday, December 2nd, Steve's former mission companion Eric Seamons came down to SLC for Federal Jury Duty, then stayed the night w/ us. The next morning Steve took him out duck hunting. They had a good time, until Eric got stuck in the mud. Luckily Steve got him out after a little while.

That night, Saturday, December 3rd we had our Ward Christmas Party. We had dinner, dessert, singing, and Santa of course. Nyles had a great time playing w/ the neighbor kids as well.

That Sunday we had family dinner at Melanie's house. Joann wanted an impromptu family picture.

Our elf on the shelf named Elf. Every day he's in a new spot and watches the kids, then goes back to Santa every night and reports if they were good or not. The kids can't touch him though, or else he loses his "magic". As soon as Nyles wakes up in the morning he asks if he can go find Elf. He's surprisingly really good at finding him!

Carter had his 6 month appointment on December 9th. He weighed 16.07 lbs (24 percentile) and was 26.38 inches long (49 percentile). He's slowed down quite a bunch, but is still really healthy and happy. Usually kids have doubled their weight by their 6 month appointment, so Carter should have been 18 lbs. The Dr. said he may have slowed down since he started solids. Either way he's still a cutie!

Saturday, December 10th Steve took Nyles out duck hunting w/ him and Rob. They were having a good time until they were headed back to the car and it started to downpour. Needless to say they got completely soaked!!!

Then he brought him to go w/ us to Temple Square. Steve brought the boys up and met me after work since I was already downtown. Nyles fell asleep in the car on the way up.
Steve pulled Nyles in the wagon and I pushed Carter in the stroller. It worked out perfect since Nyles was a little sleepy and didn't want to walk. Plus he could bundle up in a blanket better.

Wednesday, December 14th Steve called me and said he wasn't feeling well. He said his heart was racing and pumping almost like he was having a heart attack. I said well maybe you should call 911. He then called his dad to ask his opinion, then called 911. When the fire department and ambulance got there, Steve said his episode had almost completely gone away. They said to be sure he should still go to the ER to have them hook him up to machines and make sure he didn't have a heart attack. Ironically Steve's sister Stacie was planning to come over and have Conor play anyway, so she arrived as the ambulance crew got there. Joann also came over then ended up taking Steve to Lone Peak Hospital while Stacie stayed w/ the boys. They did some tests and said his heart is actually really healthy and strong, but the electrical impulses that go to his heart have disruptions (irregular heart beats). Dr's have told Steve that before, but apparently this one was worse, so he panicked a little. While they were doing some tests the nurse gave Steve some aspirin and shortly after he was having a hard time breathing. The Dr came back in and looked down his throat and realized he was having an allergic reaction. They then had to give him a steroid and Benedryl to reverse the allergic reaction. It wasn't very fun obviously to go to the hospital, but at least now we know he's allergic to aspirin as well! Thanks Stacie and Joann for your help; we really appreciate it. :)

The following day the wind blew like crazy and actually blew down parts of our back fence. Steve worked hard to put it back up. He ended up having to go to Home Depot and get some more wood to hold it in place. He said it was pretty difficult doing it by himself since he was trying to hold it in place and nail the new wood on it as the wind was blowing. He let our back neighbors know that we'll need to do some more repairs in the Spring since a few of the posts are actually rotting.

Friday, December 16th Nyles went in for a quick procedure. He kept getting bloody noses at random times, like in the middle of the night, so we finally took him to a Ear Nose and Throat Specialist to look at it. The Dr said he had a larger blood vessel in his right nose and they could cauterize it to fix the problem, so we said why not; it's worth a try. The entire procedure was like 30 seconds and he was sedated for less than 5 minutes. The Dr. said everything went well, but he'll have a follow up appt in 6 weeks to double check. Joann came over to sit w/ Carter while I went left to work and Steve took Nyles. He had to be there by 6:45am and I had an appt at 8am, so we were all up early. Thanks Joann for your help!
