2016 in Review

2016 has been an eventful year for us.  In January we listed our condo in Midvale, and then sold it by February.  We then moved into Steve's parents' home for 6 weeks while we fixed up a house we bought in Sandy.  We moved into the house in April and continued to work on it during the summer.

Carter Alan was born June 8th.  He weighed 9 lbs. 2 oz. and was 21 inches long.  He's been such a happy baby from day one!   He's very easy going and will let anyone hold him and play with him, for the most part.  Nyles loves having a little brother and can't wait for him to get older to play even more.  We love having him in our family; he brings us such joy!

Nyles turned 4 years old in August.  He took two sets of swimming lessons in the summer.  He loves the water and can't wait to take lessons again next year.   Nyles loves playing with trucks, fishing/hunting with Steve, or riding his bike and scooter.  He still loves to get tickled by anyone.  He has really enjoyed the extra space we now have in our house to play inside, or go outside.  He started his 2nd year of preschool in the fall.  He is also doing an online learning program through the state of Utah called Upstart, and has been doing really well.  He's found some new friends in our neighborhood and has enjoyed playing with them too.  He’s learning and growing each day.  He is such a joy to us!

I, Penny, am still working at Fidelity Investments as a Portfolio Specialist, helping people with their accounts which are managed by Fidelity.  I was able to take 4 months off on Maternity Leave when Carter was born, all of which was paid.  It was a great blessing to be home with Carter for that long, and spend more time with Steve and Nyles during the summer.  Steve and I were also called to teach the 7 year olds in Primary in October in our ward.

Steve decided to take this year off from school since we were buying and selling after the New Year.  It ended up working out really well as we moved and then have been working on our new house.  He has put a lot of time and energy into fixing our "new" house.  He put in the hardwood floors in our formal dining/living room, laid tile in 2 of our bathrooms, painted the wall/ceilings/baseboards in the whole house, put in new light fixtures, changed outlets, put in new bathroom fans, put up bead board, plus worked hard at reviving our yard and flowerbeds.  He still really enjoys hunting ducks, went on a deer hunt, and fishing in any way possible.  He's also been able to stay home with our boys while I’m at work, and is an incredible father to them both!

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!  Thank you for being an important part of our lives.  We are so grateful for this time of year to remember the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Love, Steve, Penny, Nyles & Carter McGrath
