Idaho Corn

My parents called us while we were at Bear Lake and said the sweet corn was on and ready to go.  After debating, we decided to go up together as a family after work on Friday.  I had an interview Friday afternoon, otherwise I would have taken the day off.  Steve picked me up from work around 3pm Friday, then we headed up.  It was slow going until we hit Ogden, but we finally made it!

Cute Carter anxious to get to Grandma/Grandpa's house.
Just playing w/ the magnets on the drive.

We gave my mom a pillow w/ all their grandkid names on it (a little late but for Mother's Day).
Beautiful sunrise.  Steve went out and shot pigeons Saturday morning w/ my dad.

After breakfast we went out, picked and husked the sweet corn.

The shorter rows are the sweet corn and the taller rows are the field corn for cows.

Cute Cater and a bug sitting next to him.  Steve, Nyles and my dad picking corn.

Yeah for corn!

Nyles thinks it's pretty fun to ride in Grandpa's truck.

We husked the corn out in the field so we could start cooking it once we brought it back to the house.  Carter and Nyles were big helpers as well.

Silly boys.  We got 2 coolers full of yummy sweet corn for us, then later went back and got another cooler full and did it for my mom and dad.

Working together as a family to get the corn done.

Finishing up the last couple ears of corns.

After we were done Grandpa took the boys for a motorcycle ride.

As my mom kept the pots bowling to cook the corn, Steve and I cut and bagged the corn.
We ended up doing 64 quart size freezer bags for us plus 20 more for my mom and dad.

Carter loves playing at Grandma's house.
I put up my mom's hummingbird feeder and shortly after the birds started to come to feed.

My dad took the boys for a ride in the combine.  Nyles was Grandpa's little shadow the whole time we were up there.  He wanted to go w/ him to do whatever he was doing.  :)

We sang Happy Birthday to Nyles after dinner.
He asked grandma to make strawberry squares for his birthday cake.  He said it's his favorite.

Nyles got a transformer for his birthday, his new favorite as well (Rescue Bots to be exact).

After dinner my dad helped make a motor mount for Steve's boat.  Steve got a new gas motor to use for duck hunting coming up in a few months so he needed a place to put it on his boat.

There were fires around Snowville on our way up Friday night.  Apparently shortly after we drove by, they closed the freeway since the fire jumped to the other side.  We could see all the damage on our drive back on Sunday.  There are so many fires this summer.

It was a quick trip, but a fun and efficient one.  In addition to the 64 quart size freezer bags full of corn, we brought home a cooler full of fresh sweet corn.  We ate some each night plus gave some to Dave/Joann, LuDean/Diane, Pauline/Chris, plus our neighbors Ron/Becky.  It's so yummy!  Once you have it you want more and it's hard to have the store's corn again.  Thanks mom and dad for your help w/ the corn and for the fun for the boys.  We have our deep freezer full now of yummy sweet corn for the upcoming year! :)
