September Gratitude List

The last 10 years

Grandma Hegerhorst wants us to write a quick family history of what we've been up the past 10 years.  So, here it goes.

Steve got back from his mission (British Columbia, Canada Mission), in January 2007.  And I got back from my mission (Slovenia/Croatia Mission) in September 2007.  I moved to Salt Lake City in November to start working for Fidelity Investments.  Steve and I officially met 6 months later in May 2008, while playing ultimate Frisbee.  We started dating 2 weeks after that, got engaged in October and were married January 2, 2009 in the Jordan River Temple (in South Jordan, UT). We bought a condo at the end of August in Midvale, and lived there until last April when we sold it and bought a house in Sandy.  

Steve has been going to school full time since we got married and graduated with his Bachelor's Degree in December 2012.  His degree was in Health Promotion Education with an Emergency Medical Services Emphasis.  He had been taking prerequisites to apply to be a Physician's Assistant, but last year decided that isn't what he wants to do anymore.  He will instead be applying to get into the Diagnostic Medical Sonography / Ultrasound program for Fall of 2018.  When not in school, Steve has been home taking care of our 2 boys.  He also has many hobbies, including duck hunting and fishing (all types), which keeps him and the boys busy and happy.  

I have been working full-time at Fidelity Investments for 10 years now in various positions.  I am currently a Portfolio Specialist, where I help people who have hired us to manage their investments.  I graduated with my MBA from DeVry University in June 2012.  I also took the Certified Financial Planning (CFP) courses in 2014, and am currently studying to take the exam in November.  

We welcome our first boy, Nyles William on August 12th, 2012.  He just turned 5 and started Kindergarten a couple weeks ago.  He is full of energy and loves the outdoors.  He is Steve's little shadow in his hobbies and adventures.  Our second boy is Carter Alan, who was born June 8th, 2016.  He is 15 months old now, getting lots of teeth and about ready to walk.  He adores his older brother.  Nyles can make Carter laugh or calm him down when no one else can.  We love life and are so happy to be together as a family!  The Lord has definitely blessed us!

Rest of August

As I mentioned we had a fun, eventful August.  Here is the rest of August, in pictures.  Also some good quotes to keep things in perspective.

After getting back from Bear Lake, we wanted to have more fun in the water, so we pulled out the kiddie pool.  For some reason the duck decoys are a hit when playing in the pool.  Carter practicing his duck calling skills.  He's pretty good :)

We went over to Draper Park to take a walk.  Nyles rode his new bike of course, and wanted to drive over the baseball pitcher's mound as an obstacle.

Good quote, and the Draper Temple.  We can see if from our backyard, and also when I get on the train every morning.  I probably mentioned on my train ride I start at the Draper Temple, then I see the Jordan River Temple and Oquirrh Mountain Temples and lastly end by the Salt Lake City Temple.  It's neat to see all the temples every morning on my way to work.  It's a good reminder to keep things in life in perspective, an eternal perspective.

One Friday night we went to the Draper Park and had a picnic.  Nyles has been asking to have a picnic so a Friday night was a great time to go.  Carter saying hi.

Tomatoes from our garden and pears from our tree!  It was our first year planting a garden and we just planted the pear tree earlier this year.  We were really surprised to see so much produce already.

We actually had 6 pears on our cute little pear tree, and probably 25-30 peaches on the peach tree.  Last year we only had 1, yep only 1 peach on our tree, and Nyles gobbled it up!

On Monday, August 21st we got to watch the Solar Eclipse. Steve made a box so he and Nyles could watch it and I was able to step out while at work downtown and watch it for a while as well.  I borrowed some of my coworkers eclipse glasses to see it.  We took turns looking at it every so often.  It was actually really neat to see, and better than I thought it would be.  I think we were like 91% totality in SLC.  It got a little darker, kind of overcast like, and probably dropped 5 degrees in temperature.  Those that experienced totality said it dropped like 15-20 degrees for them and was completely black, like nighttime (in Idaho and Wyoming for instance).  It was really neat to see.  Steve and I said we might have to travel next time to see 100% totality, which should be in 7 years, going from Mexico to Maine.

That pretty much wraps up August.  It was another HOT month, but we made the most of it.  There is always something to be grateful for.  The Lord blesses us more than we deserve.  He loves us more than we can imagine and comprehend.  This I know is true!  Love you all!
