July Happenings

To continue where I left off last....

After my parents headed out that morning (July 1st), Steve and I then got ready for church.  After church we took a nap and I made some wheat bread.  We then went over to his Grandma LuDean’s for dinner w/ his family.  We brought some fruit (watermelon, grapes, strawberries and oranges) which pretty much all got eaten up.  It’s so hot the fruit was very refreshing!

Tuesday July 3^rd, after work Steve picked me up at the train and we headed down to Lehi to Thanksgiving Point for Olivia’s 2^nd birthday party.  We had some pizza, then went and walked around looking at the cute animals.  We then came back, had some cake, watched her open some gifts, then headed out.  It was HOT, so we went home and swam for an hour or so.

On Wednesday, July 4th I had the day off.  Since we were going to have our 3rd trimester class on Saturday we took the day to clean and do laundry.  I've also been wanting to make some shelves in our closet in the hall so we worked together on that and got it done.  Before it had a small shelf that didn't even go all the way over to the right so there was a lot of empty space which was hard to get to and store things.  The goal was to take some things out of the baby room and put it in there so we have more room for baby stuff.  It was a success!  We then took the shelves that we in the closet and rearranged them to fit in the closet in Nyles room.  They worked out perfect and his room is coming along great!

That night we went over to LuDean's for dinner.  We stayed and visited for a little bit then went home and went swimming.  Zach came and joined us.

On Saturday we had our 3rd trimester class.  It was really good and informational.  The more we learn the more prepared we feel.  After the class was over Steve went fishing for a while.  Then just finished some homework and got groceries.  

This past week or should I say since my graduation, we haven't really been using our air conditioning.  It's not really working and is just pushing air around.  There is also a leak coming from somewhere so we decided it's best not to use it.  Considering it's as old as our condo we figured it would be best to simply replace it along w/ the furnace since it was having major troubles this winter also.  Steve has been calling around setting up appointments and getting bids.  Finally after 2 weeks of dealing with this CRAZY hot weather and no a/c we have a company scheduled to install our new furnace and a/c tomorrow.  We are both very much looking forward to it!!!

Besides trying not to get overheated from the heat, we've been trying to work on the baby room.  There are only a couple more weeks of school for Steve so he's been trying to keep up w/ his homework.  And since it's been soooo hot we've been going to the pool most nights to cool off and get the weight/pressure off me for a while.  We are very thankful to have the pool, especially this summer.  

We've had a lot of new sisters/couples move in these past couple weeks so are thankful for that, especially since we will be having a LOT of couples move out this month and next.  This Wednesday and Thursday I went w/ my counselors and visited some of them.  On Thursday night after our visits (about 8:30pm) I started to get this pain at the bottom of my sternum.  I wasn't sure if what I ate for dinner wasn't settling w/ me or something or if Nyles was lodged up high or something.  We went to the pool for 40 minutes or so to see if that would help but it didn't.  We then came home and got ready for bed but no matter what I did it wouldn't go away.  It hurt constantly and then there would be moments of even more intense pain for a while.  We tried to go to bed but I couldn't really sleep since it hurt so much.  At about 1:30am I finally couldn't take it anymore so I woke Steve up and asked what he thought we should do.  I pretty much knew he was going to call the Dr, and that's what he did.  The Dr on call said there were too many variables and that we should just go to the Labor and Deliver at the hospital in order to get checked.  Considering how much I love hospitals you can imagine how thrilled I was to hear this.  As I was trying to get ready to go I felt sick to my stomach and threw up the watermelon I had just before we went to bed.  (I didn't have my contacts in yet so I just saw red which worried me but thankfully it wasn't blood).  After getting my contacts in we headed out.

We knew where the ER was since I had to go there earlier this year but we didn't know exactly where the Labor and Delivery unit was.  We drove around to the other side and finally found it.  As we got in they could tell I was in pain and told us to take the room on the left and a nurse would be right in to see us.  The nurse then came in and asked what was going on.  Considering the area of where my pain was we weren't sure if it was gastrointestinal or something w/ the baby.  She said she wouldn't get an IV started until we monitored the baby to rule that out.  Well as soon as she got the monitors hooked up she noticed I was having contractions.  Though we weren’t happy to hear that, it definitely explained the pain I was feeling which wouldn’t go away.  She checked me also and I was dilated to 1 cm and about 70% effaced.  Since I’m only 33 weeks they don’t want me to deliver quite yet since Nyles isn’t quite fully developed, so she said they needed to give me medication to reverse the contractions.  She then of course got an IV going and did some more tests.  During this time I threw up in the bathroom another time, then one more time after getting back on the bed.  Once the IV was hooked up she gave me some Zofran in order to calm my nausea, then a shot of something to reverse the contractions.  After a ½ hour or so the pain did lessen w/ the drugs but the contractions were still coming.  They needed to monitor the contractions and Nyles for a while so we ended up staying there until about 7:30am.  The nurse was fantastic and did a great job, especially considering my fear of needles.

When we got back to our place Dave came down and gave me a blessing, which I was very grateful for (Steve wasn’t fully awake as you can imagine).  We’re not sure of course, but it does make us wonder if Nyles is going to come early.  Steve and I have a few more things we’d like to get done before he gets here.  Ironically I was making a list of things that day and the first one was to get a tour of the hospital.  I guess we can check that one off the list now ;)  The nurse instructed me to take it easy this weekend so I called in to let my boss know I wouldn’t be in.  We then went and slept for 4 hours or so.  Dave and Joann were headed up to the cabin to help the scouts pass off a fishing merit badge and didn’t want to take the dog Bailey, and since I needed to stay cool and really hydrated, we decided to stay at their place w/ the a/c and take care of the dog.  Steve had some homework to do then we met Eve and Darrel for dinner.  We had previously arranged to get together and since it wasn’t strenuous we figured it would be ok.  

We went to Red Robin for dinner, and then went to see “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” the movie at the $1 Theater.  It was funny and touching.  It definitely made us more excited to become parents….hopefully not for 4 weeks at least when he’ll be considered “full term.”  We then stopped at Dairy Queen for ice cream on the way home.  Eve is due in the next couple weeks w/ her little girl so I’m glad we got to hang out one more time.  We then went back up to Dave/Joann’s to stay the night so Bailey wouldn’t be alone.

On Saturday morning we went to the 2^nd half of our 3^rd Trimester Class.  It was good and very informative again.  We then came home and got a quick bite to eat, then headed back up to Dave/Joann’s where Steve met Carl Bertoch and Dave Thomas from our branch to go fly fishing.  After he got back Steve had some homework to finish up, then we came back to our place so I could work on some Relief Society things.  Steve was kind enough to go get us some groceries while I worked on it too.  We then got our stuff together and went back up to Dave/Joann’s to stay w/ Bailey.  

I had Branch Council at 7:30am Sunday, so we got up at 6:30am got ready, then headed back to our place.  I got my stuff together and went over to the church while Steve rested another hour or so.  After church we had a munch and mingle, then I had a meeting w/ my presidency. We then came home and had a nap.  I’ve been feeling better today, though I have been pretty sore from the contractions.  I have a Dr appointment Thursday so I’m guessing he’ll want to check me to see if I’ve dilated any more.  We’ll keep ya posted.  Hope all is well for you all.  Have a great week!

End of June Events

Man this Summer is just flying by, and yet it's going slow.  Either way I need to do a quick update, starting w/ the last couple days in June. 

On Thursday June 28^th I had a baby shower with my mom’s sisters at my Aunt Sherri’s.  I rode the train down to 2100 South then Steve picked me up.  No one was there yet so we went and got a burger for dinner.  When we got back Pauline was there, then Rose showed up, then my parents.  They actually drove down that day and went and visited Rose and the girls for a while.  My Aunt Roseanne showed up a ½ hr later but the rest of the aunts/cousins didn’t show up for another hr after it started.  We of course decided to wait for them before playing any of the games.  We had treats then opened gifts.  Steve, my dad and Uncle Stephen were upstairs watching a movie, and then came down for snacks.  It was fun and I’m thankful for the gifts I received, there were great!  Thanks for organizing it Pauline, Rose and Mom!  Since we started late we left kinda late as well.  My parents stayed there that night so they could be closer to Bountiful for the funeral the next morning (for my Grandpa Hegerhorst’s brother Fred, he was 92).

On Friday Steve went and picked my dad up after the funeral w/ Rob then headed out the cabin.  Steve’s dad and mom were on their way back from Moab so they stopped in too.  They picked up some lunch stuff in Heber on the way then got the boat and went out fishing.  My dad was really enjoying himself so they stayed out on the boat until it was dark.  Steve said he still had his line in the water as they were getting into the dock (silly dad).  I guess they stayed up late watching a movie too.

After work my mom picked me up and we headed down to Riverton to pick up a baby changing station/dresser.  I saw it on KSL that afternoon and it was exactly what I was looking for, plus it was already stained the espresso color which would match our crib perfectly.  When we got there it was already wrapped up ready to go.  We couldn’t look in the drawers but she told us they were all working.  My mom and she loaded it into my mom’s car (it was heavy so I felt bad I couldn’t help).  One the way back we got a frozen yogurt at Maverick, then went and picked up pizza for dinner.  My mom’s sister Connie called us a little after that and said she had a changing pad and covers for me.  She dropped them off at Sherri’s house so we ran up there and got it, then stopped and got some groceries before heading home.

On Saturday the 30th, my mom and I slept in a little then I made chocolate muffins for breakfast.  Steve and my dad got home just in time to get changed and go to my graduation.  They unloaded the changing station first though.  It fit perfectly in the room, w/ the changing pad and matched well w/ the crib, yeah!  We then went down to South Jordan to where the graduation was being held.  Steve’s parents met us there also and Rose and her boyfriend Darren.  Thankfully it didn’t last too long so we were in and out w/in an hour or so.

We then all headed over to Golden Coral for lunch; they even had a chocolate fountain and cotton candy, yeah!  Steve’s parents had to go after that, so the rest of us went over to our place and played a game and visited.  Rose and Darren then left and we decided to head up the canyon.  Steve wanted to show my dad how to fly fish, so since we had a couple hours we figured why not, plus it was cooler up in the canyon.  I think my dad enjoyed it, I know Steve definitely did.  We spent a couple hours up there, then headed back so my parents could change and go to a reception for one of my dad’s cousin’s kids.  Since it was really hot Steve and I decided to go swimming then took it easy until my parents came back.

Sunday morning for breakfast I made my dad some eggs and hash browns while my mom had some chocolate muffins.  My parents then headed home, but were going to stop in Jerome for a baby blessing.  They had quite the “adventure” while here and plenty of activities to keep them busy if you couldn't tell.  They definitely had an eventful weekend to say the least.  It was fun having them though. Even if it was quick I’m glad they could make it down and celebrate w/ us ;)

It's been a while since I updated things so here it goes, sorry its a lot and might be boring.

Steve has been working on his fly fishing skills, going whenever he can of course.  He even caught a REALLY big fish, a brown trout, check it out!

Saturday the 9^th I attended a baby shower for Eve in the morning down in Pleasant Grove, and then one for Stacie at 6pm at Joann’s house.  It was fun to visit w/ everyone.  They’re both due in July, Stacie in the middle of the month and Eve at the end.

On Wednesday the 13^th was a different yet great day at work.  My team had done well the month before so for a reward our manager decided to take us to a SLC Bee’s game.  Since it was in the middle of the day at it was over 90 degrees w/ probably no shade, I decided I’d probably not go.  My manager was fine w/ that so I told Steve to meet me at the Gateway after his class and we’d go see a movie.  He wanted to see the movie “The Avengers” so this was our chance.  Steve had talked to Dave just after this so he invited him to come as well.  The movie was fun, a little long for me, but I know Dave and Steve loved it.  Dave had to leave a couple minutes early to go to a meeting but he’d seen it once before so he was ok w/ it.  Steve and I then went to Bath and Body Works and got a couple lotions and soaps it was their semi-annual sale.  We were able to be gone from 12-4, so after going back we only had 1 hour left; it was awesome!  It’s nice to be paid to see a movie ;)

 

On Thursday the 14^th I hurried home from work, changed, then headed over to Dave/Joann’s to have dinner w/ Duane and Wendy Bates (Duane is the PA friend of Dave’s who Steve shadows here and there).  Dave made his yummy ribs for dinner.  I put together a simple, yet really yummy cobbler.  I used peaches and pineapple w/ a yellow cake mix and some butter on top.  It turned out really well; at least everyone seemed to enjoy it ;)  It was fun

 

On Friday the 15^th after work we headed over to our neighbor’s little boy’s 1^st birthday party.  They had invited some friends from the branch and some of their family to come.  It was fun to visit and also see his excitement with his new toys.  Afterwards we went over and swam w/ our neighbors for an hour or so.  It felt good to cool off a bit. 

 

On Saturday the 16^th we cleaned up a bit, and finished Steve’s project for his retirement plan. Steve has a project for his online class that involves figuring out how much you need to save now in order to have enough for retirement.  Since this is what I do at work and its something that involves both of us, we decided to work on it together.  It was really interesting to see the results.  According to our calculations, if we keep up with our retirement contributions and assuming we get a decent rate of return between now and then, we are well on our way to meet our retirement goals.  It was great to see that though it hasn’t been easy, especially living off one income and both of us going to school, we’re still able to make due.  That night we attended the adult session of Stake Conference.  It was good.  Afterwards we went over to our neighbors and had ice cream and socialized.  It was fun!

 

Sunday the 17^th we had Stake Conference.  Steve was called a couple months ago to be apart of the Stake Choir, so he’s been going to practices for a couple hours on Sundays.  The choir was scheduled to sing a couple hymns before it started, so we showed up by 9:30am.  Stake Conference was really good.  We had Brother Wilson from the Seventy talk to us.  Elder Lakner, the elder from my mission, also had a couple opportunities to give his testimony and talk about the church in Slovenia.  You could tell everyone was a little shocked when he said we only have 3 branches in the whole country, about 200 members, and he’s the 12^th missionary to serve from Slovenia.  He’s doing a great job as the zone leader and you can tell he’s growing in the Gospel and his testimony.

 

After Stake Conference we went home and I made Steve crepes for Father’s Day.  He said he wanted to sleep in in the morning and would rather have our “breakfast” after conference.   He already got his gift a couple weeks before, gravel guards for fly fishing.  He said he wanted to try them out to make sure they would work, which they do ;)  I also gave him a card called “Dad to Be.”  We then took a nap, and then got up and I made the dough for a fruit pizza.  We then went over to Dave and Joann’s and gave Dave his Father’s Day card.  We gave him 2 shirts from Hawaii a month ago when we got back, which we told him would count for Father’s Day and his birthday.  Ironically I found a card w/ a Hawaiian shirt on it which was perfect!  We also called and talked to my dad.  I sent his card up w/ my mom a couple weeks before.  My brothers and sisters all got together and got him a new flat screen TV and blueray player, which we said would count for his birthday, Father’s Day and maybe Christmas ;)  I then put the fruit pizza together and let everyone have some.  Jeff/Kim were over w/ their kids so they enjoyed some as well.  It was a fun Father’s Day :)

On Monday the 18^th after work I made some pasta for dinner while Steve worked on some homework.  We then watched a little TV then went out and swam for an hour.  It’s been sooo hot; the pool feels great!  The crib I ordered arrived earlier that day, so I wanted to get it out and see if we could put it together.  It took us about an hour is all and we had it up.  I looks great!  We’re excited to have and be a little more prepared for Nyles to come.

Tuesday the 19^th after work Steve went and picked up Café Rio for dinner; yumm!  Steve had some homework to work on, then we went swimming for an hour or so…..sooo nice ;)

 

On Wednesday after work, I hurried over to Devry and picked up my diploma for my MBA.  The actual graduation will be this Saturday the 30^th, but at least I have the actual diploma, which feels great to have it done and official!

I then hurried home, changed, and we left to go out to visit Josh and Burgandie Featherstone.  We met Josh at his work, and then followed him out to their place in Hurricane.  We then had dinner together, saw their place, and just chatted.  Steve grew up w/ him so it was good to catch up.

 

On Thursday the 21^st Steve went and shadowed Duane Bates, a PA, again.  He went from 5pm until 1am.  I had RS visits that night so it worked out fine.  We went and visited a new mother and her cute little girl.  She was born a week early but is doing great.  We then went and visited a new family in the branch.  They moved from California.  He’s a truck driver and is gone for weeks at a time so she’s home with their 2 sons. The older son is autistic so it makes it a little harder, but they’re doing fine.  She seems happy we stopped by and introduced ourselves. 

 

 On Friday, the 22nd, after work, Steve met me.  We walked over to the food court here at the Gateway Mall and got a Subway sandwich.  Ironically we ran into one of his mission president’s from his mission.  We grabbed an ice cream cone on our way out, then went over to the SLC temple and made it just in time for the 7 o’clock session.  I wanted to do a session in SLC before it closes for a while and before the baby comes.  The SLC temple is closed now through August 11^th for extensive cleaning or something.  I thought the live session would be good as well so we would be moving and I could get up every so often and walk, which was good for my legs.  The session went well.  There’s always so much to learn. 

 

On Saturday, June 23^rd, Steve and I slept in a little, then had breakfast and cleaned.  At 2pm Rose dropped off her 4 girls so she could go on a date w/ a guy name Darren.  Since it was sooo hot, we decided to take them swimming.  Steve went and bought 4 new noodles right before they came, just in case they wanted to use them.  Rose has life-jackets for the 3 younger ones, but mainly Sophia and Ali used them.  They all had a good time swimming and using the noodles.  We stayed about an hour, and then went back to our place.  I then made them a slushy and popcorn and started to watch a movie.  Rose and Darren came back shortly after and picked them up; they had gone to get a pedicure.

 

Steve and I then got ready to go up the canyon.  We had invited some friends from the branch to go w/ us, 4 other couples.  We drove up to Silver Lake then had a hot dog roast.  We had everyone bring something and had a nice yummy meal.  We then walked around the boardwalk along the lake, then came back and went swimming again.  It was a lot of fun and felt sooo much better up there, about 15 degrees cooler than in the valley.

Sunday the 24th I had branch council in the morning and after church we had our munch and mingle.  I then met with the Elder’s Quorum and his counselor and my VT Coordinator and went over changes for July assignments.  We have a couple people moving out and of course some who have moved it this past month so we needed to update those changes. 

 

After I got home Steve and I took a quick nap, they got dinner ready for Diane and LuDean.  Diane is still recovering but doing better.  Steve decided on the menu.  We made them steak, baked potatoes, corn, cornbread and chocolate chip cookies for dessert.  Everything turned out well and I think we all enjoyed it.  Steve did a great job on the steaks!  Diane tried a little of everything as well.  She said it was the most she had eaten since we got home from the hospital.  After we had just cleaned up Mike and Gloria showed up for a bit and had a cookie, then Dave and Joann showed up w/ Melanie’s kids.  They had been helping to watch them this past week and had taken them up to the cabin for a few days.  Joann was driving their van w/ 3 of the kids, and Dave had Chandler in the Tahoe.  Joann unfortunately got a migraine as she got there, so she took a pill to help.  Steve and I then got the food out again and fed the kids and Dave, they all seemed to like it.  We then helped load up the kids.  Since Joann wasn’t feeling very well Steve drove the van w/ the 3 kids and I drove Joann back to their place.  We then helped them unload the Tahoe then load the kids back up in the van so Dave could take them back to their place (Melanie and Brandon got back later that evening from their Europe trip).  Joann went inside and laid down to help her migraine while Steve and I unloaded their groceries back in the fridge.  We then went home and basically got ready for bed. 

 

Monday the 25^th we went swimming for an hour.  Our neighbors were there too, it was fun. ;)

 

Tuesday the 26^th Steve made some spaghetti for dinner.  Carrie stopped by just before we had to leave to go home teaching, so she stayed at our place until we got done.  We then chatted w/ her and watched some TV.  I also made us a slushy to cool off. 

 

Tonight my second counselor Ashley and I went around and stopped by a couple people in the branch.  We got to meet a new sister Peggy who recently moved in.  When I got back Steve and I went to the pool.  Our neighbors were there also so we chatted w/ them, then went to Maverick and got some frozen yogurt together, yumm!

 

Well that's it for now, sorry it's kinda long and boring.  I'll try to do better next time ;)
