2nd Week of June

 Here are some highlights from the 2nd week of June.

The next day (on Carter's actual birthday), Carter wasn't feeling very well but we still sang him Happy Birthday again.  Nyles even read him his new storybook he got from his Primary teachers.  He loved the birthday card and balloon from Grandma/Grandpa Hegerhorst as well.  Steve ended up taking him in the Dr during the day and they confirmed he had croup, poor kid.  Later in the week he was also diagnosed w/ Strep Throat and was put on antibiotics, which helped.  We took it easy throughout the week, but thankfully we did fun stuff over the weekend before his birthday, to celebrate his birthday.

Friday evening Carter still wasn't feeling the best and didn't want to do much.  So I took Nyles for a hike up Little Bell while Steve stayed home with the younger two.  I wanted to do something outside before it got too hot.  The weather was great and we had a great hike.  

It was great to spend time with just Nyles.  Among other things we discussed, I told Nyles about how Steve and I met and started dating.  He thought it was pretty entertaining.

Saturday we went up to Echo Reservoir to kayak and swim w/ Pauline and her family.  Dave brought over his boat so our neighbor Ron could work on it, while Steve got our boat ready to go.

Since Carter got a new kayak (and was a little bigger), we decided to get Nyles one too.  

So we have 3 little ones, and our 2 bigger kayaks.

We had a great time taking turns on the kayaks.  The weather was perfect and we all had a great time!

Hudson is finally getting his 4 top teeth in.  They are so cute as is his smile!

Sunday afternoon we went up to Silver Lake to try and cool off from the heat.  It was 100 degrees in the valley, but only 80 degrees up the canyon.  It was so wonderful!  We walked around and enjoyed the scenery.  Hudson took a ride in the wagon for the first time and loved it!

The boys wanted to climb up the big rock wall, so I went up w/ them.  We were going to set up the hammocks, but unfortunately there were mosquitoes everywhere so we kept going.

We even found snow up there still!  I love the view every time.

  

Since we were up there, we decided to show the boys where we were engaged, up at Guardsman's Pass.  It's such a beautiful view!  13 years ago (in October), we were engaged to be married :)

1st Week of June

The boys had a fun 1st week off of school.  Here are some highlights.

Cute Hudson.  He's getting 3 more teeth on top, following his 1st one which was his canine.  The 2nd one has popped through, and the other 2 are getting really close.

Carter and Nyles went over to a neighbors birthday party and they had reptiles.

We have had some HOT temperatures the 1st week of June here.  We even hit a record!

Carter wanted a kayak for his birthday, like Nyles got for his birthday 2 years ago, so we went and got him one (thanks for Grandparents pitching in as well).  Since it was so hot, he didn't want to wait until his birthday the next week to try it out.  We decided to buy 2 adult kayaks as well so we could all go as a family.  So, we went up to Echo Reservoir Friday evening to try them out.  There was hardly anyone there so we had it almost all to ourselves.  We all got to try the kayaks and loved it!  

Baby Hudson did great!  We also took out the big boat for a quick ride while we were there.  We all had a blast!  We plan to do it again soon!  It was a great family activity!

Saturday morning we went over to Thanksgiving Point for their "Dairy Days" celebration on their farm.  We invited Pauline to go w/ us.  The kids were able to make their own ice cream and butter.

They tried the ice cream; it was good!  It was also HOT so we had to eat it quickly!

The kids got to go on a pony ride.  They thought that was super fun!

Then we took a wagon ride together around the farm.

And then the kids pretended to be farmers for a while.  The boys never got the opportunity to feed a baby calf since the cows were sold when Nyles was only 1 year old.  At least they have fun on the farm still when we go visit Grandma and Grandpa on the farm.

On Sunday, June 6th we officially went back to 2nd hour for church after 15 months of not having it due to Covid.  It was a little hectic getting up to this point since all but 2 of our Primary teachers quit on us.  So, we had to work w/ the Bishop to get replacements fast.  We're still down a couple pairs or two, so Steve and I taught Carter's class on Sunday.  Overall it went well, but we still trying to keep the kids distanced and allowing them to sanitize if they want.  Though masks aren't required (according to the CDC if you're vaccinated), many don't wear them anyway plus children aren't able to get vaccinated yet either.  We hope we can continue to meet as a ward and stay safe from Covid.

That evening we went over to LuDean's and had dinner together and had cake and ice cream to celebrate Carter's birthday.  He wanted "ninja" cupcakes, so we made these simple ones.  He wanted chocolate cake w/ chocolate frosting, w/ chocolate sprinkles and chocolate Oreos, plus chocolate ice cream for his birthday.  I think he likes chocolate :)  He got this birthday crown in Primary and worn it most of the day!

Memorial Day

We went over to Thanksgiving Point on the morning of Memorial Day.  The boys wanted to see the Lego sculptures in the gardens.  It was going to be a hot day, so we went first thing in the morning.  It was still super hot when we got there, but we managed.  Thankfully we got a map of where all the Legos were located, so it helped us go quicker.  We were able to make it through it about an hour.  There was 15 sculptures made from Lego pieces.  Each sculpture was entirely build from Lego pieces.  The Legos were AMAZING! 

The Dow and Fawn, Dragonfly, Peacock and a Monarch butterfly.  The Peacock had the most Legos, 68,827 Legos bricks and took 625 hours to complete.

After the Legos, Nyles wanted to go check out the Dinosaur Museum (Museum of Ancient Life).  It was cooler inside thankfully.  There was a lot of interesting things.

We then got a few groceries and came home.  Since it was so hot we put up a sprinkler on the trampoline.  The boys thought it was awesome!  Cute baby Hudson in his festive shirt.  We went over for a dinner to LuDean's that night.  After dinner the kids played outside w/ hula-hoops.  

We're so thankful for our wonderful country and for the men and women who have sacrificed so much for our freedom.   

 

Cabin Trip

The boys were both out of school on Thursday, May 27th before lunch.  After picking them up, we had lunch then headed up to the cabin for a couple days.  We met at Dave/Joann's place, switched some of our stuff into Dave's Tahoe, then Joann rode up w/ us and Rob w/ Dave.  We got up there by late afternoon, then had dinner.  The boys were especially excited to finally get back up to the cabin.

They boys all went out fishing Friday morning, while Joann, Hudson and I hung back at the cabin.

After dinner we went out for a quick boat ride.  Hudson was a little tired after a bit and was done.

Saturday morning, the boys went out fishing again, though this time Carter hung back.  After baby Hudson went down for a nap, we went w/ Piper on a walk to the water's edge.  Carter wanted to throw rocks in the water of course.  The water is SUPER low!

We could walk all the way around the edge since the water was so low.  

They caught a few more fish and Nyles helped clean them.

We played "Throw Throw Burrito" for a 2nd time Saturday afternoon (also played on Friday).  We started to get the hang of it.  It's pretty fun!  The boys played w/ Grandma and Grandpa and Hudson sat in his chair.

We had a great time up at the cabin, like usual.  It was fun to get away for a little while.  We left later that afternoon and got back in time for dinner and baths.  The boys especially LOVE to go up to the cabin.  When it's Carter's turn for prayer, he always says he's thankful for the cabin.  Thanks for the fun!

Last week of school

The boys finished up school on Thursday, May 27th.  Here are some highlights from the last week of school.  

Our Honey Locust trees are growing!  We're excited to have a little shade from them and added privacy.  The cute Honey Locust whose top came off w/ the wind if making a good comeback as well.  Our flowers are blooming as well.  Our watermelons plant it growing and especially the pumpkin plant.  Our shrubs that we planted the same time as the trees are also growing. 

More pretty blossoms, and our pears and peaches are coming in!

The last week of school they had a lot of fun activities for Nyles.

Both boys were super excited for Summer, yet sad to say goodbye to their awesome teachers.  They've had a great year and done an amazing job not only w/ their school work, but also going through a crazy year w/ Covid.  They've had to wear masks the whole year in school, sanitize often, and keep distances.  It hasn't been easy on them, but they made it through it, even with a smile!  We're so proud of them!
