First week of 2018

January is moving right along.  I can't believe how fast it's going.  I need to catch up again.  I took the week after New Year's Day off so Steve could go duck/geese hunting up in Idaho.  Steve and Zach Hanney have gone hunting now 3 years in a row.  It's the trip they look forward to every year.  Zach couldn't get work off in between Christmas and New Year's so they planned the week after.  Since Steve was such a big help for me while studying for my CFP test, I wanted to return the favor.  Before he left we had some fun as a family.

Steve was working on putting in the can lights in our bedroom before he left.
Gotcha! Carter trying to help w/ the outlets.

Monkey see monkey do.  Carter mimicking what he saw Steve do.
Steve was working on the electrical in order to put in the can lights in our bedroom.

Enjoying some time at the park.  Carter feeding the ducks, and swinging, his favorite!

Who me?  Yumm Nutella!

Steve and I at the Draper Temple on our 9th anniversary, January 2nd.  Joann came and sat w/ the boys that morning so we could go to the temple together.

After getting back from the temple, we got the boys and went to the Cheesecake Factory for lunch.  It was a little trickier w/ the boys, but fun to be together as a family.  Trying to keep Carter entertained at the restaurant while waiting for our food to come.

Forks will do!

Nyles playing w/ forks also.

Steve and Nyles.

Carter now in the high chair eating.
Steve and Nyles holding Carter's hands to cross the street from the restaurant.

After we got home from lunch, Steve packed up and left w/ Zach Hanney in his truck up to Idaho to go duck/goose hunting.  Shortly after Steve left, we went over to the Aquarium w/ Pauline.

Nyles, Ezra and Charlotte in a shark bite, and on a turtle.

Nyles walking across the rope bridge.

Since it's been sunny and pretty warm in January, and Carter in loving this "walking" thing, we've been going on a few walks around the neighborhood.  It's been nice to get out and not have to bundle up every inch of your body.

Carter out for a walk on a sunny January day.

Now playing in the dirt.  Our little snow pile turned to ice, but Nyles still finds it fun.

Carter trying to pet the kitty "Spot" from next door.  He sure loves animals!

Nyles wanted to go back to the aquarium the next day, and since we live so close I said why not.  We ran over for an hour before bedtime.

Carter finally is willing to go up the ladder steps in order to go down the slide.
He loves going down the slide.

Carter loves watching the fish too.

Nyles checking out the Caiman.

And Stingrays.

The next day Nyles thought it would be fun to pull Carter in the John Deere tractor w/ his police car.

Out for another walk around the neighborhood.

On Friday, Nyles gets out of school a little early.  Of course the day I needed to go pick up Nyles early, Carter was snoozing longer than normal.  Unfortunately I had to wake him up to go pick up Nyles.  We then went over to the Aquarium and met Melissa Thomas and her kids.

Cute Carter snoozing away.

Cool lizard.

Piper, Calvin and Carter watching the penguins.

Cool penguin dive.

Piper and Carter about ready to go down the slide together.

Back at our place, the kids wanted to play in the dirt.  And since it wasn't that cold, especially for January, we said why not?  It's a lot of fun playing in dirt you know.

While we were having fun at home, Steve was having fun in Idaho.

Cute Steve just enjoying life.

Waiting for the geese to come in.

Waiting some more.

My dad and Ben Anderson in position.

Zach ready to go.

And their work paid off.  In case you were wondering, they got 69 geese and 39 ducks over the 2.5 days they hunted.

Steve got home Friday evening.  We were all so glad to have him home.  My mom sent home a couple Christmas gifts as well.  They boys were super excited of course.

We had a movie night before bed.
Carter kept looking over at Steve to make sure he was really there.

He was so happy to have him home again, as were we all!

Let there be light!

Steve has been on a light kick lately.  He first put a new light pole in our front yard.  The other one had lost some of the glass around the light bulb.  So Steve got a new one, which is black, then painted the light pole to match.  It definitely gives off a lot more light now.

Old light pole (white), in September 2016.  Nyles mowing the lawn.

New light pole (black), January 2018.  Carter running around the lawn, no snow.

Since Steve put can lights in our family room, we've been wanting to put more can lights in the house.  We ordered 6 inch can lights this time, instead of 4 inch, since we were putting them in 2 rooms with vaulted ceilings.  Steve put the 6 inch can lights up in our bedroom first.  We are going to put a ceiling fan in the middle as well, to especially help circulate air in the Summer.  We are just trying to decide on the one we like.  It's amazing to have light, especially during the winter months.

Bedroom lights!

Steve then put can lights in our formal living room.  We wanted more light in there as well, since we only had lamp light, like all the other rooms in our house.
Figuring out where to put the lights.  Now all done.  It's so nice to finally have light!

Nyles helping Steve paint the wall after he patched it.

We are loving all the light in our house!  I'm so thankful for Steve and his "skills" to be able to fix up our house and make it more of a home for us.  We are working on our half bathroom now as well.  I'll update when we're done.

December Gratitude List

Can you believe 2017 is over!  One of our New Year's Resolution for 2017 was to write down something we were grateful for every day.  We made it for a week, then a month, and finally we were able to do it every day of the entire year!  I am a honestly a little amazed we were able to do it every single day and stick with it the WHOLE year, but we actually did!  I had a jar sitting on the counter to put our responses in every day.  I also found it was easier when I had small pieces of paper with each day of the month written on it already, so that way we could see if we forgot/missed a day and catch up if needed.

I'm glad we stuck with it day after day this year.  It was an eye opener and has helped our family. I am very thankful for the opportunity we had to look towards the positive side of things for an entire year.  I truly feel it has made a difference in our lives.  It's very easy to spot and focus on the negative things in life.  It can really consume you if you let it.  There is always something to be grateful for, every day, even if you have to stop and think for a while.  The Lord truly wants us to be happy, and counting your blessings is definitely one of the ways to allow yourself to see the good in your life and be happy.

Here are some other good quotes, and what we were thankful for during December.
