Cabin Trip w/ Friends

Friday, July 10th we went up to the cabin for a quick trip w/ our friends Dave and Melissa Thomas and their little boy Calvin.  They recently sold their condo close to us and moved up to Woods Cross, so we wanted to hang out w/ them again.  Melissa picked me up from work downtown, and Steve met Dave close to his work.  We had a good time chatting on the way up.  We stopped in Heber and grabbed a bite to eat, then went on our way.  The kids were excited to get out and play once there.  After a bit we put the kids to bed, and thankfully they slept through the night. The next morning we had breakfast and let the kids play a little, then went down to the shore to fish.

Nyles wanted to hold Calvin.
Calvin turned 1 in June, and Nyles will be 3 in August.

Nyles ate some Red Vines and had a red mouth from it.

On our way down to the water to go fishing.

Melissa w/ Calvin and Nyles.  We decided to go by the "shore" and let them get their feet wet.  Needless to say the kids LOVED it!

Beautiful morning.

After fishing a little bit we went back to the cabin to put Calvin down for a nap.  While he was down we decided to do some yard work around the cabin.  I mowed the lawn and Steve and Dave edged it.  We then refilled the wood bin inside, since it was really low.

Almost done mowing, but you can see the length of the grass.  It was pretty tall.

All done. Much better.

After Calvin got up from his nap, we took a drive down below the Dam.  It was a beautiful view.

Now Nyles w/ me.  It was a little cool down there so he wanted to snuggle w/ me.

Beautiful landscape.

And I had to take some pics of the pretty flowers.

After we got back, we had lunch, then packed up and left.  It was a short trip, but really fun.  It was great to spend some time w/ the Thomas Family again.  Nyles of course slept on the way home.

4th of July Weekend

We had a fun 4th of July weekend.  Friday the 3rd I had the day off.  We asked our neighbor Rachel, who lives in our complex, if she could come watch Nyles while we went to the temple in the morning.  She came over at 8:45am and we left by 9am.  We went to the Jordan River Temple and did initiatories.  It was a great experience.  When we were finished we came home and invited a couple who used to live in our branch, Jenny and Matt Jenkins and their little boy Kale (who will be a 1 years old in August), to go swimming /w us.  We also invited Rachel to go as well.  We all swam for just over an hour, then came back to our place for some pizza.  After lunch the kids needed a nap, so Rachel and the Jenkins left.  We put Nyles down for a nap but did he didn't want to, so instead we went to Winco to get some groceries.

After we got back we decided to go for a hike up to Cecret Lake, up Little Cottonwood Canyon.  Neither Steve nor I had ever been up there but we managed to find it with a few points in the right direction.  It was a BEAUTIFUL view to say the least.  And the cooler temperatures up there were perfect!

There were lots of little streams to cross along the path.

 We made it!

On our way back before dark.

Oh course since Nyles didn't take a nap, he fell asleep as soon as we started going down the canyon.

Saturday, July 4th we did some things around the house, then did a little grocery shopping.  Nyles had a cough that was getting worse, so we took him into the Dr as well.  Of course there was nothing we could do for it, but he did suggest giving him a little Benadryl before bed in order to allow him to sleep and not be woken up from coughing.  After we got home he didn't want to take a nap again.  Ironically he fell asleep while watching a show.

Red, White and Blue Crepes for the 4th.

After dinner we headed up to Dave and Joann's for root beer floats and fireworks.  It was a lot of fun.  We actually stayed the whole time, which was the first time in 3 years.  Nyles wasn't scared of them either.  He was a little more interested in the neighbors dog though at times.

We played a little ladder ball before fireworks.

Nyles ready for fireworks.  We had to change his clothes because he got wet again after changing from his swimsuit.  Silly kid.

Lots of fireworks.

We gave Nyles Benadryl right before leaving, and it definitely helped him fall asleep lucking.  He still has a little cough today, but thankfully it's mostly gone.

On Sunday, we went over to LuDean's for our family dinner.  LuDean and Diane put a lot of work into our activities.  LuDean told some pioneer stories from her family and Diane helped us play a Pioneer Bingo.  It was a lot of fun!  Thanks you two!  It was a great 4th of July weekend!

Rest of June

June has come and gone, let me quickly update a few last things from the rest of June.

Steve is still taking his Summer course.  We're hoping to apply to a few schools in August after he finishes his class.  It you've talked to him recently he probably has told you there is only 3 months until Duck Season.  Needless to say he's a little excited for it to start!

Nyles is still working on potty training.  He's been doing really good.  Steve and I also prayed about Nyles attending preschool and we both felt it would be a good opportunity for him.  After doing some research we found a preschool as part of our Canyon's School district.  It's at an Elementary just a block away from us called Jordan Valley.  Nyles will start on August 24th.  It will be for 2 days a week for only 2 hours.  It's hard to believe Nyles will be 3 in August. He is definitely picking up more and more words and is able to do more all the time.  He sure is growing!

I am still studying for the CFP test.  I took another review class recently, but I want to keep studying some more before taking it.  The next test opportunity will be in November.  Work has been pretty busy.  We're going to do our big "realignment" officially in October, but starting in July we'll know where we will be realigned ie to which branch.  Ultimately it will be good, but I'm sure there will be some growing pains along the way.

Here are some pics as well.

June 17th.

Nyles couldn't wait to get into the swimming pool and jumped in before getting changed.

Playing at the pool w/ his swimsuit on now.

Friday, June 20th, Steve took Nyles up to the cabin w/ him overnight.  Carrie also came up w/ Lynsie. The next morning they went out on the boat and went fishing of course.

Dave and Nyles getting sunscreen on.  Lynsie and Carrie enjoying the boat.

Father's Day, Sunday, June 21st.  After church we went over to Dave and Joann's for pie and ice cream.  We all played outside w/ various balls as well.  Nyles and I passed the volleyball around.

More swim time while Steve mows the lawn

Enjoying a hot dog at Costco after shopping

Nyles couldn't decide which to play with, the car or the sandbox, so why not do both?
