End of July, Beginning of August

Can you believe that it is August already? We're definitely excited that it's finally August, which means hopefully by the end of the month Nyles will be here!  We're getting anxious to meet him!  

Since I last wrote we got a new a/c and furnace.  They were both the original units that were put in when the condos were first built, like in the 80's.  We knew they were going to go out someday, they just both happened to go out this year (the furnace during the winter and the a/c this summer).  By the time we got bids and got them replaced it was 2 weeks.  They say July has been one of the hottest months on record and being prego hasn't helped either.  Thankfully we had the pool to use, which we basically went to every night to cool off.

Monday, July 23^rd, we went over to our neighbors for a BBQ, specifically to say goodbye to the Shills.  They are moving to Arizona for med school.  We’re going to miss them in the branch.  It was fun to socialize w/ everyone in the branch that came of course.

Tuesday, July 24^th, since it was a Utah holiday we had a casual day at work.  Steve had to take me to work since the trains were off schedule due to the parade taking place downtown.  He then picked me up off 3900 South then we headed over to his grandma LuDeans for dinner.  It was pretty hot as you can imagine, so after dinner we went home and went swimming.  My feet/ankles have been swelling up most days, so the water is nice to get the weight off my feet, and hips!

Wednesday, July 25^th, we got together with friends in the branch who served in Canada to celebrate Canada.  We had 4 couples all together.  It was fun to have them talk about how different their missions were in the different Providences.  We ate poutine, progees, and Canada Dry as snacks.  We also played a trivia game about Canada, which we did pretty poorly at, oh well.  It was a fun evening though.

Thursday, July 26^th, I helped Steve w/ his project and lab, then we went to get groceries and packed to go to the cabin.

Friday, July 27^th after work we went up to the cabin w/ 2 couples from the branch.  Dave and Melissa Thomas and Kalia and Kiam Clark and their little girl Kualena.

Saturday, July 28^th I made crepes for breakfast in the morning, then we all went fishing on the boat.  Everyone had a good time, no wind, and we even caught some fish.  At about 1pm we came home for lunch, and as Steve was backing the Tahoe and boat back in the driveway the power steering went out.  After many back and forths Steve finally got the boat put away.

After lunch they went out shooting while I stayed back w/ Kualena so she could sleep and I decided to make chocolate chip cookies.  After they got back they wanted to go out fishing on the shore.  I didn't feel like moving far so I stayed and fed Kualena and watched her.  Walking, though not a really long distance, didn’t sound good, especially w/ all the pressure I have on my hips.  These past couple weeks Nyles has definitely moved down, "dropped" and his constantly pushing on my bladder and hips.  So walking is really not comfortable as you can imagine. After they got back we made tin foil dinner; they were excellent!  Steve also BBQ'd up the fish which they completely devoured, apparently it was really good.  We then watched “We bought a Zoo.”

Sunday, July 29^th  we came back home.  Dave and Joann came up to meet us and get the Tahoe towed.  We had lunch then cleaned up.  We stopped by the hospital to visit Stacie and little Conor (he was born Saturday the 28^th).

Monday, July 30^th  I stayed home from work because wasn’t feeling well at all.  My whole body was hurting and I just couldn't get out the door.  Since I was home that day we decided to switch our Dr appointment.  Dr Tweed said everything is looking good.  I was dilated just over 1cm and 70% effaced.  He thinks Nyles is weighing 6 pounds now.  The Dr thinks I’m a little a head of schedule but nothing to worry about.  If I go into labor again he said we’ll take him this time.

Tuesday, July 31^st, Steve and I went to “The Melting Pot” for dinner wasn’t too impressed, tried to go to the Cheesecake Factory but it was too busy,  so we then went home and got pizza.  We then updated Steve’s classes for the fall.

Wednesday, August 1^st LuDean and Diane put on a baby shower for me.  It was really nice and much appreciated.  We had a light dinner, which was very yummy, then played a couple games and opened gifts.  We are very thankful for the family support which we have, thank you everyone for your love for Steve and I and baby Nyles.

Thursday, August 2^nd  we went to visit a new sister, who is actually moving out this month. I then started working on vt reports for July since my vt coordinator has moved.

Friday, August 3^rd we ended up having to run up to the cabin to bring Dave’s boat’s keys.  They weren’t on his keys.  Steve finished his classes this past week.  He had finals on Thursday and Friday to wrap them up.  He finished up his last lab for his physiology lab, and then we left to go up to the cabin.  We grabbed a sandwich on the way up and some Benadryl  for Jeff’s dog who was at the cabin w/ a swollen eye.  By the time we got up there it was about 9:30pm.  Jeff was up there w/ some young men and a couple leaders from his ward.  They were planning to pass off some fishing merit badges.

The next morning Steve and Dave went out early to get the boat on the water.  It was a veterans fishing day so there was a lot more people than normal.  They got an hour or two of fishing in then Jeff and his crew came and joined them.  We left that afternoon to get back.  We then went to Macey’s for their case lot sale.  We want to get stocked up as much as possible, at least it makes me feel better we have something for long term storage if needs be.  I then had some Relief Society things to work on.

On Sunday I met w/ my counselors, my new 2^nd counselor, and our other RS meetings committee members.  I wanted to have a meeting w/ Ashley my 2^nd counselor before she moves this next week.  I printed information from lds.org about the purpose of our other Relief Society meetings and how to focus on the needs of the sisters in our branch.  Sister Beck points out that we need to get away from being in the entertainment business and instead worrying about the salvation of the sisters.  We then went over our calendar and upcoming meetings for the rest of the year.  I feel like we had a really good discussion and are off to a good start w/ our new 2^nd counselor.  She was teaching provident living on 4^th Sundays before and will definitely bring in knowledge and expertise to our presidency.  I also need to get another VT Coordinator called, 3 more supervisors, and 2 more RS teachers.  We had a lot of sisters move out these past couple months unfortunately, but thankfully more are starting to move it.  I just want to get as many called and trained before Nyles gets here.  ;)

July Happenings

To continue where I left off last....

After my parents headed out that morning (July 1st), Steve and I then got ready for church.  After church we took a nap and I made some wheat bread.  We then went over to his Grandma LuDean’s for dinner w/ his family.  We brought some fruit (watermelon, grapes, strawberries and oranges) which pretty much all got eaten up.  It’s so hot the fruit was very refreshing!

Tuesday July 3^rd, after work Steve picked me up at the train and we headed down to Lehi to Thanksgiving Point for Olivia’s 2^nd birthday party.  We had some pizza, then went and walked around looking at the cute animals.  We then came back, had some cake, watched her open some gifts, then headed out.  It was HOT, so we went home and swam for an hour or so.

On Wednesday, July 4th I had the day off.  Since we were going to have our 3rd trimester class on Saturday we took the day to clean and do laundry.  I've also been wanting to make some shelves in our closet in the hall so we worked together on that and got it done.  Before it had a small shelf that didn't even go all the way over to the right so there was a lot of empty space which was hard to get to and store things.  The goal was to take some things out of the baby room and put it in there so we have more room for baby stuff.  It was a success!  We then took the shelves that we in the closet and rearranged them to fit in the closet in Nyles room.  They worked out perfect and his room is coming along great!

That night we went over to LuDean's for dinner.  We stayed and visited for a little bit then went home and went swimming.  Zach came and joined us.

On Saturday we had our 3rd trimester class.  It was really good and informational.  The more we learn the more prepared we feel.  After the class was over Steve went fishing for a while.  Then just finished some homework and got groceries.  

This past week or should I say since my graduation, we haven't really been using our air conditioning.  It's not really working and is just pushing air around.  There is also a leak coming from somewhere so we decided it's best not to use it.  Considering it's as old as our condo we figured it would be best to simply replace it along w/ the furnace since it was having major troubles this winter also.  Steve has been calling around setting up appointments and getting bids.  Finally after 2 weeks of dealing with this CRAZY hot weather and no a/c we have a company scheduled to install our new furnace and a/c tomorrow.  We are both very much looking forward to it!!!

Besides trying not to get overheated from the heat, we've been trying to work on the baby room.  There are only a couple more weeks of school for Steve so he's been trying to keep up w/ his homework.  And since it's been soooo hot we've been going to the pool most nights to cool off and get the weight/pressure off me for a while.  We are very thankful to have the pool, especially this summer.  

We've had a lot of new sisters/couples move in these past couple weeks so are thankful for that, especially since we will be having a LOT of couples move out this month and next.  This Wednesday and Thursday I went w/ my counselors and visited some of them.  On Thursday night after our visits (about 8:30pm) I started to get this pain at the bottom of my sternum.  I wasn't sure if what I ate for dinner wasn't settling w/ me or something or if Nyles was lodged up high or something.  We went to the pool for 40 minutes or so to see if that would help but it didn't.  We then came home and got ready for bed but no matter what I did it wouldn't go away.  It hurt constantly and then there would be moments of even more intense pain for a while.  We tried to go to bed but I couldn't really sleep since it hurt so much.  At about 1:30am I finally couldn't take it anymore so I woke Steve up and asked what he thought we should do.  I pretty much knew he was going to call the Dr, and that's what he did.  The Dr on call said there were too many variables and that we should just go to the Labor and Deliver at the hospital in order to get checked.  Considering how much I love hospitals you can imagine how thrilled I was to hear this.  As I was trying to get ready to go I felt sick to my stomach and threw up the watermelon I had just before we went to bed.  (I didn't have my contacts in yet so I just saw red which worried me but thankfully it wasn't blood).  After getting my contacts in we headed out.

We knew where the ER was since I had to go there earlier this year but we didn't know exactly where the Labor and Delivery unit was.  We drove around to the other side and finally found it.  As we got in they could tell I was in pain and told us to take the room on the left and a nurse would be right in to see us.  The nurse then came in and asked what was going on.  Considering the area of where my pain was we weren't sure if it was gastrointestinal or something w/ the baby.  She said she wouldn't get an IV started until we monitored the baby to rule that out.  Well as soon as she got the monitors hooked up she noticed I was having contractions.  Though we weren’t happy to hear that, it definitely explained the pain I was feeling which wouldn’t go away.  She checked me also and I was dilated to 1 cm and about 70% effaced.  Since I’m only 33 weeks they don’t want me to deliver quite yet since Nyles isn’t quite fully developed, so she said they needed to give me medication to reverse the contractions.  She then of course got an IV going and did some more tests.  During this time I threw up in the bathroom another time, then one more time after getting back on the bed.  Once the IV was hooked up she gave me some Zofran in order to calm my nausea, then a shot of something to reverse the contractions.  After a ½ hour or so the pain did lessen w/ the drugs but the contractions were still coming.  They needed to monitor the contractions and Nyles for a while so we ended up staying there until about 7:30am.  The nurse was fantastic and did a great job, especially considering my fear of needles.

When we got back to our place Dave came down and gave me a blessing, which I was very grateful for (Steve wasn’t fully awake as you can imagine).  We’re not sure of course, but it does make us wonder if Nyles is going to come early.  Steve and I have a few more things we’d like to get done before he gets here.  Ironically I was making a list of things that day and the first one was to get a tour of the hospital.  I guess we can check that one off the list now ;)  The nurse instructed me to take it easy this weekend so I called in to let my boss know I wouldn’t be in.  We then went and slept for 4 hours or so.  Dave and Joann were headed up to the cabin to help the scouts pass off a fishing merit badge and didn’t want to take the dog Bailey, and since I needed to stay cool and really hydrated, we decided to stay at their place w/ the a/c and take care of the dog.  Steve had some homework to do then we met Eve and Darrel for dinner.  We had previously arranged to get together and since it wasn’t strenuous we figured it would be ok.  

We went to Red Robin for dinner, and then went to see “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” the movie at the $1 Theater.  It was funny and touching.  It definitely made us more excited to become parents….hopefully not for 4 weeks at least when he’ll be considered “full term.”  We then stopped at Dairy Queen for ice cream on the way home.  Eve is due in the next couple weeks w/ her little girl so I’m glad we got to hang out one more time.  We then went back up to Dave/Joann’s to stay the night so Bailey wouldn’t be alone.

Eve 37 Weeks, Me 33 Weeks

On Saturday morning we went to the 2^nd half of our 3^rd Trimester Class.  It was good and very informative again.  We then came home and got a quick bite to eat, then headed back up to Dave/Joann’s where Steve met Carl Bertoch and Dave Thomas from our branch to go fly fishing.  After he got back Steve had some homework to finish up, then we came back to our place so I could work on some Relief Society things.  Steve was kind enough to go get us some groceries while I worked on it too.  We then got our stuff together and went back up to Dave/Joann’s to stay w/ Bailey.  

I had Branch Council at 7:30am Sunday, so we got up at 6:30am got ready, then headed back to our place.  I got my stuff together and went over to the church while Steve rested another hour or so.  After church we had a munch and mingle, then I had a meeting w/ my presidency. We then came home and had a nap.  I’ve been feeling better today, though I have been pretty sore from the contractions.  I have a Dr appointment Thursday so I’m guessing he’ll want to check me to see if I’ve dilated any more.  We’ll keep ya posted.  Hope all is well for you all.  Have a great week!

End of June Events

Man this Summer is just flying by, and yet it's going slow.  Either way I need to do a quick update, starting w/ the last couple days in June. 

On Thursday June 28^th I had a baby shower with my mom’s sisters at my Aunt Sherri’s.  I rode the train down to 2100 South then Steve picked me up.  No one was there yet so we went and got a burger for dinner.  When we got back Pauline was there, then Rose showed up, then my parents.  They actually drove down that day and went and visited Rose and the girls for a while.  My Aunt Roseanne showed up a ½ hr later but the rest of the aunts/cousins didn’t show up for another hr after it started.  We of course decided to wait for them before playing any of the games.  We had treats then opened gifts.  Steve, my dad and Uncle Stephen were upstairs watching a movie, and then came down for snacks.  It was fun and I’m thankful for the gifts I received, there were great!  Thanks for organizing it Pauline, Rose and Mom!  Since we started late we left kinda late as well.  My parents stayed there that night so they could be closer to Bountiful for the funeral the next morning (for my Grandpa Hegerhorst’s brother Fred, he was 92).

On Friday Steve went and picked my dad up after the funeral w/ Rob then headed out the cabin.  Steve’s dad and mom were on their way back from Moab so they stopped in too.  They picked up some lunch stuff in Heber on the way then got the boat and went out fishing.  My dad was really enjoying himself so they stayed out on the boat until it was dark.  Steve said he still had his line in the water as they were getting into the dock (silly dad).  I guess they stayed up late watching a movie too.

After work my mom picked me up and we headed down to Riverton to pick up a baby changing station/dresser.  I saw it on KSL that afternoon and it was exactly what I was looking for, plus it was already stained the espresso color which would match our crib perfectly.  When we got there it was already wrapped up ready to go.  We couldn’t look in the drawers but she told us they were all working.  My mom and she loaded it into my mom’s car (it was heavy so I felt bad I couldn’t help).  One the way back we got a frozen yogurt at Maverick, then went and picked up pizza for dinner.  My mom’s sister Connie called us a little after that and said she had a changing pad and covers for me.  She dropped them off at Sherri’s house so we ran up there and got it, then stopped and got some groceries before heading home.

On Saturday the 30th, my mom and I slept in a little then I made chocolate muffins for breakfast.  Steve and my dad got home just in time to get changed and go to my graduation.  They unloaded the changing station first though.  It fit perfectly in the room, w/ the changing pad and matched well w/ the crib, yeah!  We then went down to South Jordan to where the graduation was being held.  Steve’s parents met us there also and Rose and her boyfriend Darren.  Thankfully it didn’t last too long so we were in and out w/in an hour or so.

We then all headed over to Golden Coral for lunch; they even had a chocolate fountain and cotton candy, yeah!  Steve’s parents had to go after that, so the rest of us went over to our place and played a game and visited.  Rose and Darren then left and we decided to head up the canyon.  Steve wanted to show my dad how to fly fish, so since we had a couple hours we figured why not, plus it was cooler up in the canyon.  I think my dad enjoyed it, I know Steve definitely did.  We spent a couple hours up there, then headed back so my parents could change and go to a reception for one of my dad’s cousin’s kids.  Since it was really hot Steve and I decided to go swimming then took it easy until my parents came back.

Sunday morning for breakfast I made my dad some eggs and hash browns while my mom had some chocolate muffins.  My parents then headed home, but were going to stop in Jerome for a baby blessing.  They had quite the “adventure” while here and plenty of activities to keep them busy if you couldn't tell.  They definitely had an eventful weekend to say the least.  It was fun having them though. Even if it was quick I’m glad they could make it down and celebrate w/ us ;)
