Retaining Wall Redo

We're excited our retaining wall is finally done!  The weather put us back a little at a time, which ended up being a couple weeks overall.  It definitely took patience not to want to put our backyard back together while it was happening.  Here are some pics along the way.

February 2016 right before we moved in.
We couldn't see the true damage of the wall from the trees since there was snow covering it.

October 2016 right before we took the trees out.

The trees were definitely damaging the wall and patio.

The trees again.

We finally had to bite the bullet and just get it done.  It was only a matter of time before it gave out completely.  We wanted to move the wall as far back as we could to the fence line, but that would have cost even more to remove all the dirt, so naturally we just decided to replace it where it was before.  The wall is 105 feet long, 4 to 6 feet tall, and 8 inches wide.  The footing is also 1 foot thick by 2 feet deep, plus the stairs.  Needless to say it was a BIG job that required LOTS of concrete!

March 2019, full damage from the trees, time to tear it out.

This was the least damaged section, but we wanted to remove it all just to be safe.

Skid steer moving the shed.

Ran into power lines, apparently they moved from where originally documented.

Carter fell asleep watching them.

Getting the footing ready for the wall.

Here comes the cement.

Footing done now time to set the wall frames up.

The place for our stairs.

Time for concrete in the wall.

In the short term w/ our mess the boys LOVED the giant sandbox they had to play in.

Frames off.

We just need the stairs poured and T-backs.

More playing in the sand, literally sand, we don't have dirt.

Getting ready for the stairs to be poured.

More fun in the sand, building tunnels.

Finally the last amount of concrete for our stairs.

Stairs and T-backs.

All done.  It tore up our grass of course.

The dirt going back up behind the wall instead of on our patio, plus the shed moved to the side.  We decided not to put it back where it was since it might have broke along the way and this gives our side way more space to enter the yard, win/win!  Getting ready to put the sod down.

After putting new sod down.

Our giant new retaining wall.

Grass coming in nicely on the lawn and flowers too!  We are so glad to have it finally done!

Yeah for the wall being done finally!
