Memorial Day Weekend

Friday we headed up to my parents in Idaho to visit them over Memorial Day weekend.  I took the day off work, and the boys of course were all done w/ school.  We headed out in the morning and made a few stops along the way.

We stopped by the lookout in Twin Falls to see the Snake River and also filled up w/ gas.  We've driven by and never technically stopped, so we figured "why not?"

We then decided to stop at the Bruneau Sand Dunes.  Again, we've never stopped and climbed up the dunes.  Since the boys are a little bigger now, we figured they should be able to do it now.

Steve stayed at the bottom w/ Hudson, while Carter, Nyles and I continued on.  It was a HOT day but we finally made it.  I kept encouraging them to keep going and remind them the view from the top is worth the hike.  I also let them know that it's SOOO fun going down.  When we got there, they both agreed it was worth it.  Nyles especially needed encouraging, but he did it!!!  We think he gets heat exhaustion like Steve does, and doesn't do too well w/ the heat.  We'll have to watch it for sure.

We made it to the top!  Based on their website, "Bruneau Dunes park boasts the tallest single-structured sand dune in North America with a peak rising 470 feet above the surrounding desert floor."

We made it to the top!

Having fun jumping down the dunes.

Getting a picture next to the Bruneau Sand Dunes sign.  Back when Steve and I were dating we went to the Sand Dunes and took a picture on the back side of the Idaho sign.  So we wanted to take another one just for fun.  There were also pretty flowers around at the base of the dunes.

We got to my parent's house later that afternoon.  Hudson wanted to say hi to the kitty.  He loves to play w/ the broom and dustpan also.  Then trying the swing out.  Then finally to bed :)

Hudson catching a ride w/ Grandma on her wheelchair.  The beautiful farm.  Pretty Iris.

Steve, Nyles and my dad went out fishing Saturday morning and afternoon.
They caught a few fish and saw a double rainbow on their way back.

That afternoon they went fishing again off the dock.

Since we didn't make it up for Easter (the week before our cruise), we did our Easter sack hunt then.  My dad hid the bags, then we all went and found them.  My dad only had to give us a few hints. :)

Yeah we all found one!  Later doing a puzzle w/ Grandma.  It was raining on Memorial Day, so we just stayed in the car to see my Grandpa Hegerhorst's grave on our way home.
On Sunday, we went up to Boise and attended church w/ Barbara.  Her son Ryan graduated high school on Friday, so after church we got together and had lunch to celebrate.  Daron, Kristi, Wade and Riley came over as well.  It was great seeing everyone and visiting for a little bit.  We went back to my parent's place that night, then went back home the next morning.  Thanks for the fun everyone!

We made good time getting home.  Hudson fell asleep shortly after we got on the freeway and slept for several hours thankfully.  Nyles took a nap as well.  We only stopped once for a bathroom break.  When we got home we unpacked, and also put away all their school stuff.

Later at home, Hudson laid down on the floor; I guess he was ready for bed.  A pretty wild flower came up.  Carter and Nyles with their school art work from the year.  We put it up in the garage so we can see it all year long, then take it down once school is over.  They can then decide to keep a few of them in their "school box."  It's crazy to think another school year has come to an end.

Great quotes.

4th Week of May (before Memorial Day Weekend)

Here are some highlights from the last week of May.

Like father like son.  Hudson likes guns like Steve.

Cute Hudson.  He is so strong (lifting up 6 lbs).  Then trying to play ball w/ Piper.
Getting his hair cut.  Cute boy w/ his bum in the air.

On Wednesday, May 25th, Nyles' class went to the Hogle Zoo.  Steve decided to take Hudson and Carter up there as well, and meet Dave and Joann.

They said the weather was perfect and most of the animals were out and about.

They met up w/ Nyles and his group at lunch time though.

Carter on the Merry Go Round w/ Grandpa.

Fun around the zoo.  The polar bear was out!

The polar bear being very active.

Getting some ice cream!

After they got back from the zoo, they decided to go out fishing after I was off work.  Rob came over and went out w/ Dave, Steve, and Nyles.  They had a great time and caught a LOT of White Bass.

The boys all catching fish!  They kept 130 fish.

The boys wanted to play in the pool, while Steve, Dave and Nyles went fishing.  Hudson didn't want to get out of the water even though he was really cold, so Carter shared his Oreos w/ him.

The boys had their last day of school on Thursday, May 26th, 2022.  Both Nyles and Carter have worked really hard this year and have learned so much.  We are proud of them and the achievements they've been able to accomplish.  Carter will start Kindergarten next year and Nyles will be in 4th grade.  We found out that their school, Altara Elementary, got a grant to allow Kindergartner's to be able to attend all day at no cost!  We are so excited!  Carter is definitely ready for it and excited to be at the same school as Nyles and be able to get dropped off and picked up at the same time!

Last day of school pictures.  Some art Carter did in preschool.

1st (August 2021) and last day (May 2022) of school pictures for Nyles.

3rd Week of May

Here are some highlights from the 2rd week of May.

After helping plant Grandma LuDean's flowers the week before, Steve and the boys went over to help Dave/Joann's plant their flowers.  They had fun w/ the water and got Popsicles as well.

Good work boys!

Monday evening Steve went fishing w/ Rob, and our neighbor Jacob.  Steve promised to take Jacob fishing, and in exchange he would watch the boys while we went to the temple.  They had a great time.

On Tuesday evening we were able to go to the temple thanks to our neighbor Jacob.  He came to be w/ our boys after we put Hudson down to bed.  Steve and I were then able to go do sealings.  We had a great time at the temple and enjoyed the Spirit there.  Our pretty Irises are in bloom as well.

On Wednesday, Steve went back to do more Carp fishing w/ the bow w/ Grandpa.
They were are Millrace River at Utah Lake, and had success!

I threw the ball for Piper, but it got stuck in the rock wall.  Piper tried hard to get it haha!  We also bought a big watermelon at Sam's Club.  It had to weigh it, 35 lbs!  Another beautiful Iris in bloom!

Cute Carter and Hudson jumping on the trampoline during my lunch break.  More pretty Irises.
Our playhouse w/ a new coat of paint/stain on it.

Irises in our front yard.  Great quote.  Cute Hudson asleep.

Cute Hudson eating some noodles.  Another great quote, and another awesome color Iris.

Cute Hudson sleeping w/ his bum in the air.  And on another day he went through Steve's wallet ;)

Carter and Hudson eating a popsicle during my lunch break.
Hudson also trying to sit in the dump truck and playing w/ bubbles.

Good quote.  Hudson took my protein bar and wouldn't let it go.
He took it to the bath w/ him and kept eating it.  Silly kid.

Friday night we went over to the curiosity museum.  It was nice to get out.  The boys had fun playing outside especially.  Steve and Hudson digging, then Hudson playing w/ the wheel, looking at the fish and wearing Carter's jacket.

Hudson in the rocket at the museum, and popping "bubbles" at the museum.  A new color Iris in bloom.

Carter going on the zipline.

Nyles on the zipline.

Then on Saturday, Steve and Nyles took Ryan and his son Gavin Miller out to shoot Carp also w/ the bow.  They had a good time and got many Carp then as well.

On Sunday, Nyles gave a talk in Primary about his experience fishing the day before w/ Steve.  Here it is:

Yesterday, my dad and I went fishing at Utah Lake for Carp.  At the boat ramp, we were stopped by the US Coast Guard to do a vessel safety check.  This means that they were going to inspect our boat and the equipment on it.  If you don’t pass the inspection you are not allowed to launch your boat on the water.

I was a little nervous as we got stopped, but I knew my dad is always prepared.  He always makes sure we have the right safety equipment on our boat, like a fire extinguisher, life jackets, lights, and whistles.  It took 30 minutes to complete our inspection, but we passed with no problems and were able to launch our boat and go fishing.

We had a good time fishing and were able to shoot several Carp.  On the way home, my dad and I were talking about the inspection.  My dad said he wasn’t worried or scared we wouldn’t be able to go fishing, because he knew he was prepared.  He said he always goes over a checklist of things we need to bring with us, before leaving home.

We then related this to being prepared spiritually in life.  We can be spiritually prepared in life by doing the simple things like:  reading our scriptures, going to church, saying our prayers, and partaking of the sacrament.  As the scripture says in Doctrine & Covenants 38:30 , “if ye are prepared ye shall not fear.”  I know that by being prepared spiritually, I can handle whatever comes my way.

In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Nyles giving his talk in Primary.

Sunday: Hudson eating a sucker while sitting on the rocking chair at Grandma LuDean's.  Then Hudson playing on Diane's Ipad after dinner.  Great quote.

2nd week of May

Here are some highlights from the 2nd week in May

Hudson and Nyles with their alligator shirts on, "A" is for Alligator.  Cute Hudson hugging his blankets while sleeping.  Hudson eating some of Grandma Hegerhorst's canned pears, yummy!

Hudson so tired.  Carter w/ his birthday crown from preschool.  They took turns celebrating summer birthdays.  Great quote.

Singing Happy Birthday to Carter at preschool.

The playhouse finished w/ the new coat of paint we put on it.  Hudson wasn't feeling well (teething most likely), but he still wanted to go out and play in the sandbox and jump on the trampoline while Nyles and Carter are at martial arts.  Steve also cheered him up w/ some bubbles earlier.

On Friday, Carter had his year end program, along w/ his graduation.  They did some really cute songs.

Carter singing silly song.

Carter singing a Camel song.

Carter singing a rock song.

Carter all graduated w/ his teacher Mrs. Julie.  It was held at the old Draper Theater.
His older cousin Chandler Lake graduated from Newcastle also.

Saturday morning, Steve, Nyles, and Carter went over to LuDean's place to help Dave plant her flowers from Mother's Day in her yard.  They were good helpers.

Then later that afternoon w/ Rob, they went Carp fishing w/ their bows.

Hudson and I playing outside again while the boys were fishing.  Our pretty Lilac bush in bloom, while Hudson and Piper play in the water table.  Hudson likes to try to throw the ball to Piper as well.  We're starting to see pears on our tree again.  Hudson also likes to draw on paper.

A pretty Iris in bloom.  Hudson going down the slide and looking through the telescope.

Then playing in the sandbox and playing w/ bubbles.
